"Mommy, please don't leave me here!" The voice of a spiky-haired boy whined through the kinder garden drop-off. Tugging on his mother's skirt, begging and pleading for her not to leave him in such a strange and unfamiliar place.
"Oh, don't worry, Drew! You'll be fine, make some new friends. Mommy will pick you up when school is over, okay? Now kiss mommy goodbye." The little boy kissed his mother's cheek as she quickly walked off to her car, driving off.
What am I suppose to do here? He thought to himself. Awkwardly looking down at his brand new shoes he'd gotten just the day before, he walked up to another adult, completely wandered like a lost puppy. Pulling the sleeve of her arm, he got her attention.
"Where's all the other people?" He asked her. The woman sent him a warm smile and pointed to the opened gate leading to the playground.
"They're all over there, sweetie." He nodded at the woman and ran into the fenced area, not getting very far until he all the other children's screams and yells of play filled his ear. He noticed something. He had no friends here. Who am I gonna play with? Confused about the entire situation, he wandered off to a Field, sitting underneath a large pine tree, staring up at the sky, daydreaming.
Then he noticed a small figure, skipping through the flower-filled landscape, picking flowers. He stood up, eyes wide with wonder. Her flowing brown hair, a slight wave to it, Her angel-like smile as she picked the dandelions from the grass, blowing them into the wind. He smiled. The first time in a very long time for him. The confusion to him was: This smile was caused by someone he's only seen for a few seconds, and she's flipped his entire attitude in a record time.
This mommy's words rang in his head. Make some new friends. But a girl like this? He remembered that his dad had once told him that angels would come down to earth to help people who were feeling sad or angry. But how do you be friends with an angel? Where are her wings? He wondered.
"Hi!" A kind voice greeted him, extending a small hand out for him to shake. He realised he'd walked all the way up to her already. Surprised, thinking angels couldn't talk, he shook her hand slowly.
"H-hi." He mumbled softly as the girl took her hand back, smiling at him.
"I'm Jaylyn! Do you wanna play tag?" She grinned, already positioned to start running. He smiled, nodding his head quickly.
"Okay! You're it!" She ran off into the Field further and further away from the school. He laughed, running as fast as he could after her. Why dosen't she just fly? He wondered. He ignored it, chasing after his new friend. His only friend.
Two weeks later, he was home. Sitting in the floor of his bedroom, curled up against the wall. His knees were to his chest, and his arms were wrapped around his legs. He tried to block out the screams of his parents as they fought in the kitchen.
"What other guys have you been fucking with, huh?! Being the whore you are! I'm gone for a week on business and you can't even handle that?! I provide everything! And all I ask of you is to love me and our child! That's all I've ever wanted from you! No more, no less! I was positive a bitch like you could manage to do that!"
"I have not been cheating on you, Richard! If anything, You're the one who's been going around like a slut! Fucking every girl you meet! You're an immature little bastard! All this shit would have never even happened if you could've just told me what happened last night!"
"I can't tell you what happened! You know what, if I'm such a bastard, why don't you get out of my house?!"
Silence filled the house after those words flew out of his dad's mouth. A few moments later, a door slammed shut.
His dad let out a deep sigh, proceeding to walk up the stairs when he stopped in the hallway.
His son's bedroom door; wide open. And there he saw his son, Drew, curled up against the wall of his room, scared out of his mind. His dad ran to his son, holding him in his arms.
'Daddy...what happened?" He asked, His dad looked around, hoping any object in the room would inspire him with an explanation easy enough for Drew to understand.
"Well um, mommy and I had a bit of a...falling out. Everything's going to be fine, Drew. I promise, it's just...daddy's very tired right now. Go to bed, you have school tomorrow." He stood Drew up and held his hand as they walked to his small bed. Tucking him in, he whispered into Drew's ear just as he drifted off to sleep.
"I'm gonna miss you, son."
-The Next Morning-
Drew awoke from his sleep early in the morning, just as the sun was rising through his window. He heard nothing. Just silence. Not the sound of the morning news on, or the smell of his mother's cooking. Quickly, he jumped from his bed, and ran out of his bedroom to his dad's room. When he opened the door...
Everything was gone. There was no bed, all his clothes were gone, and all the pictures that had been placed were gone, leaving white squares scattered on the walls. Drew only stared at the room, not knowing what to think of it. Was his dad out to the store? Did he go to the park without him? Maybe he's playing hide and seek! Drew smiled, and ran down the stairs into the kitchen.
"Found you daddy!" The kitchen was empty. You're good, daddy, but I'm gonna find you! Drew assured himself, and checked the entire house, down to the last cabinet, drawer, and closet. he never found his dad. Confused and slightly panicked, Drew walked to the front door of the house, and saw his dad just driving off into the rising sun as it rose.
"Hey!" Drew called out. He got no reply. He ran out the front door, chasing his dad's car down as fast as he could, all the way until he wasn't in his neighborhood anymore.
Drew stopped. He watched his dad drive off onto the road with a bunch of other cars. He saw his dad turn his head around from inside the car to look at him. He just turned away, driving off even faster.
"Daddy?"
