"Ugh," I moaned as the Arizona heat beat down on my back like a thousand suns. Though I've lived here for four years, I'm still not used to the scalding heat that makes my light olive skin have bright and sore red splotches. I was walking to my neighbor's house, where my best friend, Evangelina, or Lina, lived. We lived in the rural area of Arizona so I would need my car just to get to her house. As I got in my car, I heard my mom yell,
"Elvira Whittaker! You better get home by 10 pm! Tonight, not tomorrow!" I sighed. Even though my mom let me get away with more than usual moms and was more like my best friend, she works at the hospital and barely gets any days off, so she wanted to spend tonight with me. I realized she expected an answer, so I shouted back,
"Fine, I won't get laid tonight!" Which spiraled us both into laughter as I sped out of our driveway. I pulled up to Lina's driveway and saw Lina's brother Matt outside.
"Matt, what are you doing outside? Shouldn't you be trying to get a better KD ratio than me in COD?" I joked. I'm a total gamer and Matt is totally jealous of me. He laughed, a twinkle in his eyes.
"Ha ha. Very funny, Elle. Actually, I've been tasked with waiting for our cousin, Daniel, who's been studying school in England for a while. He's coming back to live with us since he got expelled."
"Oh. Well now I'm curious." He laughed again.
"Come sit with me then. He'll be here so-" Matt was cut off by a revving of an engine. I looked up and saw the most drool-worthy guy I've ever seen on a badass red and black motorcycle. He had messy raven hair that just covered a little of beautiful emerald eyes that shone mischievously. Our eyes met and it was like everything disappeared except him looking at me. He smirked, obviously knowing the effect he had on me. He started walking over and Matt leaned down to me and whispered, "Elle, you're drooling." That got me out of my trance and I wiped my mouth, realizing he tricked me. I shot Matt a glare as he laughed and nervously called for Lina. Lina bounded out of the front door, laughing.
"What's up Matt? Is Elle scaring you again?" Lina was tall and thin with dark brown hair, bright blue eyes, tan skin, and long legs. I was short and chubby next to her. Her eyes found the other guy and she squealed. "Danny!" Lina ran up to him and hugged him. His eyes softened looking down at her. I felt a surge of jealousy. Was this god Lina's boyfriend? If so, how come I've never seen him before and why hasn't she told me about him?
"Hey Lina. I missed you." Lina smiled at him and dragged him over to Matt and I. Matt and Danny, as Lina called him did a bro hug, before Lina pointed to me.
"Elle, this is Daniel Clark, my cousin. Daniel, this is Elvira Whittaker, my best friend." Daniel's eyes held amusement. Oh thank god, I still got a chance.
"Elvira? Are you serious?" He asked. I shot him a deadly glare and said,
"Yeah I'm serious, Mr. I'm so cool since I ride a motorcycle." Daniel stepped closer to me. My breath caught in my throat at how close he was, before my brain remembered that he was an epic douche. He looked down at me, his eyes darkening and inspecting my face before landing on my lips.
"Listen here, Goth Girl. There's so many things I could do to you right now that could prove I'm cool." His voice was deep and smooth. I couldn't help the shiver that escaped my body. I glared even more at him and growled,
"I'd like to see you try." He smirked at my anger and retorted,
"Even more hot when you're angry. Plus I like the feisty ones. We both know you want me Elle." My face turned red and yelled at Lina.
"Whatever. Come on Lina, you wanted to go to the mall and I want to dye my hair." Lina bounced into my Ford Focus and I started walking towards it when Daniel stopped me. His emerald eyes were softer now as he grabbed a loose copper curl.
"Don't dye it. It's beautiful." My face went even more red. Daniel leaned in towards me, our lips almost touching.
"Elle! Come on!" Lina yelled. Daniel jumped away from me as I ran into the driver's seat. Lina was laughing hysterically at my face still flustered and embarrassed as we drove out of their driveway, with Daniel staring after us.
