Tony's POV

The gang was going out and I decided to invite Monica. I knew people didn't really click with her, but that wasn't any reason to exclude her. Right? So I texted her phone and she said she would be there. We all thought it was a good day to go to the beach and I was ready to frolick through the water like a free spirit.

We had all decided to meet up at Anne's house before we left just to group together and then get on our way. When I got there, all we were waiting on was Vic, Mike and Monica. They came around the same time. Valerie's older brother was there with his girlfriend and I assumed he was tagging along. Everyone wondered about them.

"Guys, this is my older brother, Damion. This is his girlfriend, Taylor." Valerie introduced us, gesturing toward the two young adults, and I watched as they waved. Taylor looked kind of shy and stood really close to Damion at all times. He didn't seem to mind at all, seeing as he had his arm around her waist. Whenever I saw them, they always seemed so in love.

"Yeah, so I'm just gonna tag along. I'm not a chaperone, I'm still 18. Honestly, we probably won't even be around you guys." He laughed and we all chuckled along with him. Once everyone was all set and ready to go with beachbags, surfboards, and boogie boards, we loaded into the cars. Damion and his lady in his Porshce by themselves; Jaime, Belle, Monica and I in Jaime's car; Anne and Valerie in Anne's car; and Vic, Mike and Jayne in Vic's car.

The whole car ride, I could tell Jaime was on edge about something and Belle knew what it was. Her efforts to relax him weren't working and she gave up and took his hand in hers. She held onto it and played with his fingers and ironically enough, that calmed him down. I was sitting in the back talking with Monica, who I had become a lot more comfortable with. I had gotten used to all the flirting and playfulness that she brought and I sometimes made attempts at flirting back.

When we arrived at the beach, everyone parked and it had to be around noon. San Diego has multiple beaches, but we went to the one most people don't go to. It was a long drive out and it was beautiful there. No one was around and a ten minute walk out would bring you to a plaza full of outlets. The real reason no one really comes here is because it's so hidden.

We all parked on the beach and Damion grabbed Taylor's hand before walking off toward the plaza. Before they left, Taylor pulled me aside.

"You and Jaime keep an eye on Damion's sisters. As much as he denies it, I know he hates the idea of them with boys. He plays the man of the house role so just help him out." She gave me a friendly punch and ran back to her boyfriend's side. I told Jaime our special task and he nodded.

"So how do we do that?" He was lost as to what exactly to do and so was I.

"Just make sure they don't get into any trouble but leave them alone." He nodded and we regrouped with our friends. I was talking to Anne, who I had found out was a really cool girl, and Monica sneaked up on me. Everyone was doing their own thing in the water and Monica jumped on my back.

"To the water!" I laughed and ran to the ocean in front of us.

"Talk to you later, Anne." She waved me goodbye, looking slightly disappointed and went to join Valerie and Belle talking to Jayne about something.

The waves were wild and Monica was expertly clinging onto my back like a spider monkey. The sand underneath the water was soft and we were the only two in the water at the moment. She jumped down from my back and took the lead, dragging me out further, where the waves were calm, and they slowly rocked us side to side.

"Hopefully I'm not biting off more than I can chew." She laughed nervously and bit her lip at the water being up to the middle of our chests and it clicked that it was a reference to the day we first met, when I saved her from drowning.
