I spy with my only eye... A human group. They were killing others like me, a bullet or two through the brain, or like the one without a gun, just cutting their heads off. I stayed out of their sight however, knowing all too well they wouldn't know Im not like the attackers. I saw no reason to kill when already so many brains were ripe for the taking... In the dead. When they left I drew closer to the ones they killed, picking the skull open from the bullet wound to get the brain. I could tell it hadn't rotted too much... Yet. I was near done when I heard the humans returning, their voices growing louder... The female and one of the males. I grabbed what I could before getting up to go hide and eat what I got. I watched the spot before though, feeling a twinge of curiosity of what they were doing. The female gasped at the sight of the zombie I had taken what I wanted from and ran over to it. "Look! Viktor! I told you it followed us!"
"Hm... I.. That might not be good... But.. It may also show signs of conscious thought.. Interesting. Well.. It cant be far. Go get Kevin. Ill start looking." I froze at this.. That was good. Looking? For me? I hadn't thought this would happen. I took a bite of the brain I had grabbed before dropping it. I didn't need it getting in the way. I began to try to sneak away. Thankfully I found a spot not too far away that they shouldn't look. They spent a while looking for me before seeming to give up... And then a flashlight shone at me in the tunnel and I froze, surprised, and confused... Before turning to run.
I don't know how I did it but I got away, escaping that girl... But I also lost the humans. Great. I began to climb up to the surface and try to find them. The one that had suggested looking for me seemed angry, saying he wanted to study me.. I had heard what has become of his subjects, of the failed cures. That didn't appeal to me, not at all. I did not want to truly die... Not yet. The pretty human came out and began to calm Viktor down.. It seems to be working. Good. Soon they began to set up a sort of camp, watching around them for those alike me, though ones who were hostile. I stayed in my perch all night and into the morning before they began moving again. I shifted so I was hidden and then would follow when they had gotten far enough ahead... Seems... Uneventful. Hm.
The trip was easy, though boring. They went into their tall building. Fear drove me to stay away... But curiosity of that banging noise drew me closer. I padded inside to see the pretty one. He tilted his head at the sight of me, and I tilted my head back at him, mimicking. The man had broken the stairs up to him, probably why he wasn't running. He turned to where I assumed the other humans were. I was proved right as the experimenter came over and watched me watch them. Both of us were quiet... Until I turned to leave.
"No!" I heard him cry out and I paused... Before looking back. My eyes met the eyes of the experimenter and I felt uncomfortable from his possessive gaze. I turned once more and ran. He did not call out again.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-I watched the zombie flee, its gait nearly as flawless as a living person's in naturality of movement. Viktor looked to me with eager eyes and I sighed. "Fine, fine. Lemme get the ladder." He looked nearly like a giddy kid and I had to wonder once more if he was a priest or two children in his garb. I walked into the room that Lucille sat in with the bound up person that was... Used to be her father. He was one of them, an undead, but Lucille refused to let us kill him, insisting that Viktor could find a cure..it only spurred the priest's delusions of grandeur on. Nonetheless I began carrying the ladder over and pinned the top with two large nails that I buried into the ground with a hammer. As soon as it was set and stable Viktor grabbed his gun and climbed down quickly, and I followed. I had to make sure he didn't go forgetting to look around again. After all, that's how we found him, wrestling a zombie that he didn't notice. He ran after the direction the zombie went and looked around often. I killed two zombies that saw us as we ran, not wanting to deal with them on the way back. Viktor finally caught sight of the fleeing zombie and the hunt began. I drifted to the side and sprinted ahead, taking care not to be seen as Viktor chased it forward. I waited until he had the creature going through a tunnel and cut it off at the end, turning it around toward Viktor. It looked between us with that one eye and I could see it's fright.... It didn't want to die. I nearly felt bad for it, but Viktor caught up and grabbed it, setting the stage for me to bind it. I did so and Viktor and I began to carry it back despite it's struggling... And then its left arm ripped out of it's socket and we all stilled to look at the shoulder that used to hold the arm. Viktor and I glanced at one another as the zombie seemed to be processing what happened. I grabbed it by the main body and heaved it so its pelvis and torso anchored themselves over my shoulder. Viktor tried to take the arm that fell off, but the thing screamed at him, it's voice angry seeming.... Honestly I don't blame it. It was kinda our fault, but still, it probably wouldn't have fallen off if the thing didn't fight so much. We continued and once there Viktor climbed first and took the zombie as I lifted it up, getting a vague thought of *'Simba'* before the zombie was taken. A small smile slid onto my face and I began to climb as Viktor carried the angry sulking zombie to a room I knew well, Viktor's science room. See, this man didn't just fancy himself a man of the word, he was a man of science as well, and tended to blend the two. Some of his ideas were disturbing in their convincing nature but I did my best to treat him as normal as I could. He shifted to strap the zombie to a medical chair we had gotten up here before I broke the stairs down. I wouldn't have needed to do that if our bottom floor hadn't been broken into, but things suck sometimes, especially in the apocalypse. Anyways, once he had the Zombie down he untied him and took the arm, doing his best to ignore the loud angry sounds from the creature... And he looked at me. I sighed and walked over, shifting to hold the arm in place. I could tell Lucille was watching, her feet could be seen out of the corner of my eye. He grabbed a skin sowing needle and sterilized it with fire before threading the metal wire into it. The zombie tried to shift away from him as he approached, and I had a vague curiosity of how human it acted... And then Victor began to sow it's arm back on, and I noticed it had stilled and was doing it's best to watch with it's one eye. I held the arm steady and after a while, Viktor was putting the last stitch in. He tied it off the best he could and began to wrap it sturdily with a bandage. The zombie watched us with wary eyes as Viktor shifted to disinfect his tools. I watched it as its eyes settled on me. There was silence for a good minute... And then it stuck it's tongue out at me and turned away. My brows furrowed almost instinctively. "The fuck?"
"I think he likes you, Kevin~"
"Shut up, Lucille."
"What? He stared at you." She giggled lightly, knowing very well of my particular... Likes.
"Anyways, we should name it!"
"Why" I near groaned at the suggestion and I saw Viktor shoot me a look.
"She has a good idea. If this fails, we should know what to call it."
"Six." I huffed annoyedly.
"No! Thats not a name!" Lucille cried indignantly.
"Its the sixth zombie."
"Its still not a name!" I rolled my eyes. "Whatever. What's your suggestion."
"Jake" She grinned proudly and I raised a brow.
"... Why Jake?"
"Cause its easy to remember and its actually a name"
"I think its a good name for him." The zombie finally growled and we all looked to it. Lucille paused.
"You don't like the name Jake?" It did it's best to shake it's head no and I raised a brow. "Well apparently the thing has a name. Care to get it a pencil" I joked and Viktor looked at me unimpressedly.
"Lucille, you're the artist." He speaks kindly and she darts to her room, getting a worn down pencil, and a paper on a clipboard.
"Is it short enough that we can give you letters and you can nod or shake your head no?" Lucille inquired and it seemed to think before nodding. She gasped lightly. "Oh! We can play hangman!" It stared at her but she ignored that and shifted to sit right next to it in a chair, taking the brace off of its forehead and it only stretched its neck a bit before lifting it to look at the clipboard.
"Nod for each letter." It nodded five times and she drew five lines.
"You first Viktor!"
"Hm... J." It shook its head and she drew the hanging thing.
"Kevin?"
"M."
Wrong.
"R?" She looked to it and it nodded twice. She pointed to each slot and it nodded to two middle ones right next to each other.
"L?" It shook its head.
"E." It nodded, the E before the r's.
"Y?" It nods once more and she bounces lightly, pointing to the last notch. It nots again.
"T?" Viktor finally got one as the thing nodded and she filled it in. "Terry!" It seems pleased and Viktor nods lightly. "Well, at least you'll be a bit more comfortable."
