The wind blew against my face like soft cottons. Looking up, I see birds soaring high above the sky in line formation as they headed west on the backs of the mountain. I can hear deep within the sea as the water splashes against the rocks below me. A child’s laughter caught my attention. As I looked towards the sound, I see a mother and her daughter  walking away from the cliffs edge and heading towards their car. Sometimes I wonder how life would be like for me if I was as normal as any human being. I used to think I was normal until last summer when my home burned down in fire.

My name is Samantha McKinland and I have this incredible power that lets me release fire out through my body. I first discovered this last summer when my whole house burned down in flames. It was a scene I couldn’t erase and a memory I couldn’t forget. That was the day my mom and I argued and then the house started to burn. I tried to save my mom but it was too late.

Returning back to the present, I looked away from the mother and her daughter as they drove away. Looking at them is painful because it reminds me of my mom and I when we used to walk here every weekend. Those happy days are gone. Memories from that day keep flashing back in my mind. The time when my mom and I were arguing about me missing school for a week. Those were the days my body felt heated all the time and strange stuffs keep happening. I was late for school one day and I got into trouble with my math teacher. Mr. William was a very strict teacher who had a thing about students coming late. I had a huge scolding when I came into class late. I remember feeling this huge burning in me. I was heating up in anger.

Then before I could even say a thing, the whole classroom was in flames. There were students everywhere screaming and running out from the building. No one knew how the fire started.  The strange thing about that day was that I didn’t feel the heat of the flames. It just felt like a strong wind blowing against my skin. That was the day I found out I wasn’t normal at all. After that day, I hardly came to school. That’s when my mom decided to lecture me about it. The more she talked the more my anger build up. I tried to hold it in but I wasn’t strong enough that day to control the fire coming out of me. But this day was different. Flames of fire were pouring out of me. I remember my mom’s shocked face before a ball of fire hit her hard. As she fell backwards I ran to her and held her up. After laying her down, I tried to save her. The last thing she said before she died was “Your father can help you.” I remember that as I was kneeling and weeping over my mom to come back, the flames were getting stronger too. I was later brought out of my home by a few police officers that came to the scene.

Those days are gone. My search starts now. I am looking for a  man named, George Harrison, who is the leader of those with special abilities. He is known to help those in need. And right now, I’m going to meet him when I find him. I’m about to see my father for the first time.
