Melodious ocean waves, fill the calm morning air. A gentle breeze is flowing in through the open window. I glance at my glowing clock, it's four thirty am. It's official, I haven't slept a wink all night. The meeting with the king last night left me more than a little, unnerved. He finally seems to have accepted me as his daughters choice. All the small tests he has been throwing my way may have served to win him over.
"You are a good man Dr. Murray. I am leaving my daughters' life into your hands and with her, the fate of the entire kingdom! Be weary, nothing is as it seems in Garviland!"
An entire two hours worth of conversation and those words have stuck with me. So much so that I couldn't sleep all night. Leave my daughters life in your hands!... "Nothing is as it seems..." I couldn't even get him to explain his cryptic message because he suddenly stood up and walked out. Leaving me staring into my cold cup of coffee.
It surely can't be that bad, can it? I have been in Garviland for over a month, met all members of the peer. All were pleasant and welcoming, even her past suitors seemed to take the news of her choice gracefully.
I definitely won't be getting any answers to my questions laying here in bed. The gym always serves to clear my mind, I rip the covers off my body and just as I am about to step off the bed, I hear stealth shuffling behind the door.
The door handle squeaks, someone is trying to open it. "Albert? Dude. It's too early even for you!" I say heading over to unlock it. I switch on the lights, turn the lock and pull the door open expecting to see my valet.
The two mountainous figures standing in the hallway, are enough to send the hairs on my neck standing on alert. "Y-you are not Albert." The fist that shortly connects with my face confirms that.
Another punch sends me flying backward. Even with the plush carpet, its force lands me with a painful thud on the floor. My two attackers follow me inside and descend on me with more blows.
"Enough!" A voice breaks through the continuous pummeling. "I need him alive!" It says with an unmistakable Italian accent. The accent doesn't alarm me as much as the source of the voice. I try to lift my head off the floor but the splitting pain coursing through every inch of my body stops me cold... "Someone's coming, move your feet!" The familiar voice says again, only, without the accent this time.
Wait a minute. No! It can't be. I try to sit up to get a better view of the man in charge, a sting in my neck hinders that plan too. I turn and see the man on my right retrieving a syringe from my throbbing neck. My vision starts getting blurry, I struggle to stay awake long enough to confirm my suspicions. "Your time here is done, Joe!" He says coming into view.
"You!"
"Yes, me!" Are the last words I hear before darkness settles.

My attempt at writing a prologue and on the first-person perspective might I add! Quite challenging.
