Finally, after I had been crying for a couple of minutes, I knew that I had to try to pull myself together and start driving home. I had a party to go to
at Chelsea's house in less than two hours, and I didn't want them to know that I was an emotional mess just a few hours before. I had to look flawless tonight and have my picture-perfect smile ready for anyone, at any second. This was Chelsea's legendary last-day-of-school party, and anyone who was anyone was going to be there. Not only that, but I was the definition of popularity. I was the most popular girl at Riverview High, and a person of such a status does not show up to any social event looking like I do right now. Breathe, I told myself. This is not the end of the world, Charlotte. But even with these wise words of self- reassurance, I could not help but feel the noticeable absence of romance in my life... of happiness. Though I was still distraught and very distracted, I didn't want to rush myself while driving home or getting ready to go to the party, so I knew that I had to leave the parking lot and begin driving. Absentmindedly, with music blaring out of my car radio, I began to move the car backwards slowly, out of my parking spot. Before I could take another breath, or even so much as blink, I felt the impact of the car air bag pressing into my stomach as I heard the breaking of glass...
