He laughed, loud and obnoxious.
"You sound like my type of viking. How did you kill it?"
I froze. This was something I had not anticipated. He looked at me suspiciously and so did the others around him.
I hoped that the saying "Curiosity killed the dragon" wouldn't be true in my case.
I said the first thing that came to mind.
"I lured it with a metal dagger and then stabbed it through the heart.""Ha, you used the oldest trick in the book! Ruthless, I like that!" He was practically shouting at me. Yeah, he was clearly crazy.
"So, you got any information about-" I started, but was interrupted.
" I have been after a skrill for years now and you are the first viking I have met to actually kill one. Which is surprising, considering..."
Great. Here we go again. Most of the place I have been to over the last three years find it hard to belive that an explorer/rider/whatever I need to be in the moment could be a girl. Which is HIGHLY insulting.
"What? You don't think I could do the job just as well as a man?" I fire back.
He looks a bit startled, but quickly changes the subject.
"I don't believe we have been introduced. Obviously I am the chief. Name's Dagur."That made sense. He was the insane guy who supposedly killed his dad to become chief.
"Alvi." I hoped that giving my real name wouldn't be a mistake.
"So about the kid with the skrill..." I wanted to leave as soon as I could.
"Oh yeah. A few years ago we found a kid with a skrill on an island."
That was very vague.
"What was his name?"
Dagur shrugs.
"I don't keep track of names. I think it was... Thoror? Thorface? I don't know. Maybe Thorir. But he has been attacking dragon hunter ships for whatever reason."Finally, some useful information. I didn't know about the names though. I doubted if any of them were his actual name. But before I could thank him and leave, someone ran up and whispered something. Dagur turned a hard gaze on me.
"You are not who you say you are."
Crap.
"What gives you that impression?"
Just play it cool..."A few days ago there were reports of a dragon rider at the northern markets. At first I just thought it was Hiccup or someone else. But the reports said it was a skrill rider. With fiery red hair..."
Wait, other riders? Also, I should have worn a hood. Who could- never mind. It doesn't matter at the moment.
"Plenty of vikings have red hair." Even though I couldn't think of another one.
"They also say that the rider was wearing silverish dragon scale armor, that matched her purple and silver skrill." A crazed look crosses his face.
I need to leave. Now.
Meanwhile in the forest...
Whirlwind sighed as he settled himself on a bed of leaves. After the girl got off the boat, she told Whirlwind to stay hidden. He understood, but didn't like being away from her. He got up, unable to sleep and wandered to the north. Before long, Whirlwind saw a noisy, fluffy thing surrounded by sticks. The fluffy thing smelled like his favorite food. But he learned that when sticks are around them, people come to yell and throw stuff. Whirlwind chuffed in disappoint. Best leave it alone. Whirlwind continued his walk, and spotted the girl. He wanted to bound up to her, she probably has some fish for him. But something felt off to Whirlwind. The people around her looked hostile. He growled. She probably was in trouble, again. But she did say to stay hidden.
He really wanted to help, but Whirlwind wasn't sure what to do.It looked like she was going to fight them. Whirlwind grinned, as dragons do. He charged up a lightning bolt and waited.
Alvi's pov...
There was no easy way to get out of this. But then again, is there ever?
I slowly reached for my baton strapped to my back. Nobody seemed to notice.Someone handed Dagur an axe. He approached me, while I started to back away.
"You will take me to your skrill." He said the words with a snarl. If I doubted his sanity before, I surely didn't now.
No. No, I won't. I pulled my baton out and braced myself. This wasn't going well.
The blow came from behind me, not from the crazy man in front of me. Electricity crackled over my scaled armor. I glanced over my shoulder and glimpsed Whirlwind. Thank goodness.
The electricity crackled when I moved, and began to blister my hands. The armor was protecting me from the shocks, but I needed to discharge it. With a grin, I realize what Whirlwind wanted me to do. I touch my baton to my armor, transferring the electricity to it.
It was slightly amusing to see the shock on their faces. A few moments later, most of them had run off or were knocked out, and the charge had run out on my baton. Dagur was the one I was having the most trouble with though. His determination matched his insanity. I broke away from the fight and ran towards Whirlwind.
A few moments later, we were in the sky and I had some information. It was time to see how accurate it was.
Hey, I am back. I am still dealing with stuff, but it is a little better now. I will try to stick to my original schedule, but no promises.
