donghyuck was sitting on the bench at his new school's courtyard, waiting for his friend when the weirdest thing happened.
well, it wasn't weird if you ask anyone about it.
he was just minding his own business and his phone was down to its last 10% left, donghyuck basically had nothing else to do than to people-watch until his best friend arrive. that was when a group of guys came and sat at the picnic table across him. all of them looked older than him, he was sure that that they are all at least in their 3rd year of uni. they were all mostly tall and unfairly attractive, donghyuck was almost jealous. almost.
and then it happened.
"mark! over here!" one of them shouted, waving at their (presumably) friend.
donghyuck turned his head to where the group were all looking at and his gaze landed on a boy coming out of the building. lightly socially awkward, broad shouldered and surprisingly pulls off the ugliest plaid shirt donghyuck has ever seen. the boy was everything donghyuck could never thought of finding himself have a double take to.
strands of mark's dark hair could've fallen into his eyes if it weren't for the round glasses perching on the bridge of his nose. he blew his fringe away and smiled at his friends as he approached them.
it was the brightest smile donghyuck has ever seen and dare he says, the cutest he's seen.
and donghyuck was bewitched.
he felt his heart race as he hear the dark haired boy say something. the sound of his voice matches his exterior well, boyish and soothing. there was a slight accent to it too and donghyuck thought that it was adorable.
mark's laugh was the one thing donghyuck never thought would come out of him. he laughs with his entire face and also at the slightest things. donghyuck doesn't know how one of mark's friend finding a banana under his bed was funny but mark is cute, so he's excused for his bad humour. despite this, donghyuck felt his hands become clammier whenever mark's gaze is on him for a split second when he looks around.
donghyuck's breath hitched when he looked up a little too soon and briefly met eyes with mark. hues of red spread throughout his cheeks as he fixated on his worn out sneakers instead. donghyuck could still feel mark's eyes boring into him as his heart thump harder against his ribcage.
fortunately for him, his friend came right on cue. "hyuck! sorry, i was just–"
"explanations can wait later, jaemin. i'm really hungry, let's go." donghyuck grabbed jaemin's sleeve and tugged him away.
the day went on after his lunch with jaemin at a nearby subway restaurant and donghyuck could conclude that his first day was utter bullshit because a certain boy's smile had been pictured in his mind all day. wait no, his smile was pictured, framed and concealed with a damn security glass in his mind and the two barely knew each other!
it was almost as if he was catching feelings for mark, which was an entirely weird concept to donghyuck because not only does he not believe in superficial things like crushes at first sight, he never thought that he will be capable of liking someone in that kind of way again.
