Today we will take a look at the Song "Strangelove" by Depeche Mode.
We will start with the opening lyrics;
There'll be times
When my crimes
Will seem almost unforgivable
I give in to sin
Because you have to make this life livableOkay, well we must start out by acknowledging that this song is being sung to a woman. You can tell this by the content.
Anyways, when he says his crimes may seen unforgivable, and he gives into sin, this means that he is openly cheating on this woman, and she knows about it, and he is saying, that he gives into having relations with other women, because he wants that good feeling, and the womam he is with isnt always giving him that feeling when he wants it.
Now for the second set;
But when you think I've had enough
From your sea of love
I'll take more than another riverful
And I'll make it all worthwhile
I'll make your heart smile
This means, when she thinks he is done with her, and doesnt want her anymore, he will come back, and fufill her. When he says he will make it worthwhile, and he will make her heart smile, he means he will come back to her, make her feel special, and fufil her, and make her happy.Now on to the third set;
Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
StrangeloveThis means that he is saying his love is strange, and having a relationship with him will have many and many ups and downs, and he is saying that is how it will be with him.
Now on to the fourth set;
Will you give it to me
Will you take the pain
I will give to you
Again and again
And will you return itThe pain he gives her, is cheating on her, and her knowing about it, and she lets it go on. When he asks if she will return the pain he will give her again and again, he is asking if she will take that pain, of being cheated on, and she will return it by cheating on him, and having him know she had cheated.
Now on to the fifth set;
There'll be days
When I stray
I may appear to be
Constantly out of reach
I give in to sin
Because I like to practice what I preachThis means, there will be days when he cheats on her, and it may seem that is he stubborn and will not listen to her, or what she has to say, and he will go cheat on her, because usually musicians are with multiple women, so he wats to live up to that, despite the fact that he is in a relationship.
Now on to the sixth set;
I'm not trying to say
I'll have it all my way
I'm always willing to learn
When you've got something to teach
And I'll make it all worthwhile
I'll make your heart smile
This means, he is telling her he wont just make everything go his way, and he will listen and he is willing to try being commited to her, and then he will come back to her, and fufil her, as we stated in previous sections.Now onto the seventh set;
Pain will you return it
I'll say it again, pain
Pain will you return it
I won't say it again
This is just him restating if she will remain loyal, and suffer like she has, or if she will cheat, and make him feel what she did, when she found he had cheated on her.Now onto the last set;
I give in
Again and again
I give in
Will you give it to be
I give in
I'll say it again
I give in
I give in
Again and again
I give in
That's how my love goes
I give in
I'll say it again
I give inThis is just him saying that again and again and from time to time he will cheat again.
