My fiance John drove me to the bus stop like he did every morning since my car broke down.
I had suggested that we car pool, but he said it as a bad idea, didn't want to get to work late.
I understand, he has a lot going for him.
I smiled and leaned forward for a kiss, we kissed and I stepped out of the car.
"I'm going out with Carl and some of the guys, get a ride home. K?" I nodded.
I didn't really have anyone to drive me home.
I waved John goodbye and sat on the bench, waiting in the cold, for the bus.
A women with a shaved head came and sat by me.
I've always played with the idea of shaving my head. Of course I'll never actually do it.
I have long brown hair, tan skin, dull brown eyes, and freckles that dot my nose; I'm to tall for my gender and to skinny to be attractive.
I gave a shy smile and tucked my face in my scarf.
I tapped my high heels on the concreat putting in ear buds.
I had lost circulation in my fingers by the time the bus came.
I smiled and paid the driver preceding to middle of the bus.
I really didn't mind the bus, it was quiet and I enjoy seeing the different kinds of people.
The girl with the shaved head sat acrossed from me. I avoided eye contact.
I zoned out looking out the window, until my stop came.
I got off the bus thanking the driver.
It was about a 20min walk from the bus stop to work.
So I ran, which proved difficult in a pencil skirt and sharp heels.
I entered the building, showing the security guard my ID.
"Good morning Octavia" he said.
"Morning Ted" I smiled and walked through the gate.
Ted is a large black man, he's worked here forever.
I squished in the elevator.
To many people. My mind stated.
I took a deep breath like the doctor told me to.
1...2...
I preceded to count to ten
I looked at my phone the time read 6:15 not late. Yet.
6...7...
When the doors opened I pulled out my ear buds and walked out.
I work in a giant building located in New York.
As a person terrified of everything living in New York was a lot to handle.
9...10...
But I've been here for five years and don't plan on leaving.
I jogged to my desk I sat down and wiggled my mouse.
7:00AM
My screen read. That was close.
I exhaled and logged in.
I work as a receptionist for one of the biggest law ferms, my boss Cameron is a very successful lawyer.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't attracted to Cameron. He has tanned skin, jet black hair, piercing blue eyes, and I  know he works out regularly because he usually has me transfer money from his account to the gyms.
I've been working here for about three years.
I'm not really sure why Cameron hired me, half of the people that were a lot more experienced that me.
Cameron came out of his office.
"Good morning, sir." I smiled and stood up.
"I have those reports you wanted." He smiled.
"Hello Octavia, how's your day?"
"Fine, sir" I said not sure why he asked.
I handed him his coffee.
"Ah, thank you I need coffee this morning." I smiled.
"Did you do anything exciting last night?"
He asks me this question every morning, the answers always "No, did you, sir?"
The only time I'd actually had an answer is when I had gotten engaged.
"No Octavia I can't say I did, but it's a new day." He nodded and dispeared into his office.
The day was like any other, I ran arrons for Cameron, answered phone calls, redirected people from Cameron's office.
I was setting up an account when Cameron walked out.
"Why are you still here?" He asked.
"What?" I looked up, sure enough everyone was gone, the windows lining Cameron's office wall were black.
I looked down the time read 12:00PM.
No way I'd been here that long.
"I uh... don't know." I logged off my computer and stood putting on my jacket.
"Are you okay?" Cameron asked me.
Cameron had started treating me like a glass figure that he was worried I'd  break, ever since my panic attack last year.
He'd been there when it happened.
That's when I had been diagnosed with anxiety.
"I'm... uh, fine" I lied wrapping my scarf around myself.
"Do you need a ride home?" I thought about saying yes, but John is the jealous type. He didn't even like me working for Cameron.
"Um..." I glanced around "No I'll be fine..." I have no idea how to get home.
"How are you getting home?"
"Bus."
"Nonsense." He said slapping the desk.
I jumped "you really don't have to drive me all the way across town, it's out of your way, sir."
He shook his head "it's no longer office hours, address me as Cameron." He started walking to the elevator, I stood in silence.
"Are you coming?"
I sighed and followed him.
"Look let me call my fiance, then if he can't pick me up I'm more than happy to have you drive me."
He nodded "sure."
Cameron and John met once, at a Christmas party, nither were fond of each other.
I think Cameron sees me as a little sister, I have known him longer than I've known John.
I dialed Johns number.
It rang.... and rang.... and rang...
Until 'hey this is John, leave a detailed message and your number, thank you."
I sighed and hung up.
"I guess I'm getting a ride."
We walked into the lobby.
We stepped out the glass doors, a silver mustange pulled up.
I started freaking out.
No way I'm getting in that!
I froze.
"Is is is th th that your car?" I stuttered.
Cameron nodded looking conserend.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Hey look thank you for the offer, but I can just take the night bus, the stop is only a block away from here."
I started walked the other way.
"Hey!" Cameron called I ignored him and kept walking.
1.... 2....
I know ignoring your boss isn't the best thing to do.
I took deep breaths, that's when I heard him start the death trap, he came up beside the side walk.
5... 6....
"Octavia, your not walking in the dark, just to ride a sketchy bus, at one in the morning."
9.... 10.....
It wasn't working, I'm starting to freak out.
I clenched my fists in my pockets.
"Really it's no trouble."
1.... 2....
My head started spinning.
Calm down
I need to calm down. I told myself.
3.... 4....
My head started spinning, I think Cameron saw me starting to freak. He flipped off his roaring engine making it almost silent.
Well as silent as New York gets.
7.... 8....
He got out of the car, walking up to me.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
I couldnt hear anything besides the blood rushing in my ears.
My raspy breaths were starting to make my dizzy.
"I'm fine" I think I said.
1.... 2....
Wait, what number was I on?
I grabbed Cameron's arm for support, he led me to the side of a building. Leaned against it taking deep breaths.
"1... 2..." I started counting out loud.
Cameron didn't say anything, he just watched me with consern.
I wasn't worried about embarrassing myself in front of him, he'd seen the worst of it.
"5.... 6...." I was starting to feel better, my chest loosened.
I took another deep breath.
"9.... 10....."
I stood up straight, Cameron had his arms hovering over me in case I collapsed.
"Better?" He asked.
I nodded.
"10...." I exhaled.
