I lay in bed without actually getting any sleep. I couldn't. I was completely terrified. I had spent the last several hours racking my brain on who could possibly know my current location and how. No one had known about my flight to Brazil. No one knew I had took off until my mother must have found my emptied out bedroom and the note I had left on my pillow. She knew of course that I had left willingly but to where she did not know. The only people I really missed were my parent. I felt guilty every time I thought about them. But as I said before, I try not to dwell on my past memories of Wales.
When I had arrived at the airport the next flight was to Brazil and so that's where I decided to escape to. It was a completely random decision so no one could have possibly known. Unless I was followed. No, I was being ridiculous. I felt so unsafe in my new home, I decided I had to get out. I grabbed the clothes which were closest to me and quickly threw them on. I then grabbed my car keys, phone and bag and quickly left the house.
Oscar's POV
I lay awake. It was 3am and I was going over today's happenings in my head. I couldn't stop thinking about the girl in the park and the ball and damnit I'm so stupid. I can't believe the ball hit her. Maybe I do have an awful shot... I was too shy to even strike up a proper conversation with her. DAMN! I'm so stupid.
I couldn't sleep and my thoughts were driving me crazy. I had so many regrets about not making the most out of meeting Brianna. My mind was restless so I did what I normally do when I can't sleep. I went for a walk.
Brianna's POV
I don't know why but it seemed like a good idea to go to the park where the ball incident had happened earlier. The park was my favourite place in Brazil so far. I somehow felt safer here than when I was at home. I felt so relaxed with the soft breeze cooling me down and blowing gently against my skin.
Just then I heard the harsh crunch of leaves. The hair on the back of my neck pricked up and I felt goosebumps forming along my skin as I quickly dived behind one of the nearby bushes. I peaked around the bush, looking at the path, trying to make out who it was. Maybe it wasn't the greatest idea to leave the house. My heart was beating so hard it felt as if it was going to burst out of my chest. I held my breath as the dark figure came closer. I got a good glimpse of his face. I recognised him.
"OSCAR!" I said in a tone that was a bit too happy to say I had only just met him the very same day. He looked startled at first but his face relaxed once he realised who I was.
"Brianna, I didn't expect you to be here. Actually, I didn't expect anyone to be here" Oscar said, he sounded happy to see me though. "I couldn't sleep and I usually come here for a stroll when my brain wont turn off to let me sleep. There's usually no one else around" he explained, "so it was a bit of a shock to see you." I ended up in deep conversation with Oscar and it turns out we have a lot in common when it comes to music taste, films, books and tv shows. We also talked about football. He told me how he was worried he wouldn't get a place in the Brazilian team and how he was disappointed with his form at Chelsea this season. I reassured him that he couldn't have done too bad.
But then came the moment I was dreading. He began to ask about me. He asked me where I was from. I had to keep this brief.
"I'm from Wales actually" I told him, "it's extremely different to how it is here."
"In a good way?" Oscar asked sounding hopeful.
"Yes" I paused, "of course in a good way. For example, in Wales no handsome Brazilian men ever kicked footballs at my head." I winked.
"I'm really really sorry about that" Oscar said, laughing at my attempt at flirting. We had aimlessly walked in circles around the park for what must have been hours and I could see the sun in the distant sky.
"Oscar" I said.
"Mmhm" he replied.
"I don't want to be any trouble but" I paused for a second, wondering whether to ask him or not.
"You don't want to be any trouble but?" Oscar questioned me.
"Would I be able to stay at your house? You know, just for a bit?" I asked, he looked a bit confused. I knew I had to lie."You see, there's a couple of pipes broken in my new house and the plumber can't fix them until at least two weeks. He's so busy, I just need a place to stay until he can come and fix them that's all. You're like the only person I even know here."
"Oh sure" said Oscar, I think he believed me, "that's fine." He smiled, taking my hand we walked to my car and Oscar gave me directions to his house and pointed out various things around us on our way. He pointed out his favourite restaurant, the local bookshop and the best coffee shop among many things. I pulled up into Oscar's drive and we both exited my car.
"Please excuse the mess, Brianna" Oscar said looking a bit embarrassed. He turned the key in the lock and pushed the door open, holding it open for me. I took my first looks at what was to be my home for the next two weeks. "Well, this is it" Oscar said, "what I call home."
"It's lovely" I told him, smiling. "Thank you so much for letting me stay here." Oscar led me to the guest room: a large room with a double bed, a large wardrobe and a dressing table. The room was painted a light cream colour and was very welcoming. Oscar then left me alone where I had the best sleep I had in a long time.
