It was a normal day, a peaceful day.

Kito had found himself closer to the surface of the water than usual, usually tending to stay about 300 feet down to stay closer to civilization and to avoid sharks and things like it. But today was different. He found himself wanting to see the full beauty of the sun, to associate with the dolphins and maybe catch a few colorful fish for a later meal. He didn't have to catch his meals - most of them were served to him, however he took pride in hunting his meals most of the time. His long tail waved powerfully through the water, heading leisurely towards the surface, letting himself sight-see.

Distantly, he heard a boat, but paid it no mind.

His head popped out of the water, eyes immediately squinting and almost closing to adjust to the brighter side of the world. All around him the ocean surrounded, so far away from the shore that not even birds went out this far. He coughed a bit, breathing in open air for now as if someone who stuck their head out of a car that was going 100 miles per hour, minus the wind. He adjusted his breathing rate, easily getting used to it, before looking around.

The ocean outside of the water always was a pretty site to him.

He sighed in content, looking up at the sky with one hand shadowing his eyes, studying the clouds with a type of fascination. Is this the stuff humans see every day? The sun in its natural glory and clouds dotting a perfect blue sky? Seemed like heaven to him, though he would never trade it for a second against his life now, in the ocean he loved and adored.

Scanning the area around him 360°, he narrowed his eyes in on a boat in the distance, far away enough to seem misty but close enough to tell it was indeed a boat. A flash of contempt overtook him for a second, remembering the horrible stories he has heard of humans, on how they capture his people to display their wealth and glory. He had always been warned to stay away from boats.

However..

Curiosity overtook him. He had never actually... seen a human. He has been told on how they look, act, speak, love and the things like it, but has never been able to observe them himself. He rarely went to the surface nowadays, finding himself too busy or too lazy to do so. It was a long swim, albeit a swim that was worth it. Any boat he encountered before he immediately retreated from, the warnings and stories flashing through his mind as he did so. He was afraid of them, so to say.

Was he ready to face his fears?

A small battle occurred in his mind then. 'Don't do it, they'll catch you and you'll be in a cage forever, never to see your family or your people again..!' 'But that's rare. Many of my family have seen humans and even got close enough to touch their boat. They won't be observant enough to see you.' 'Yes, but there has been cases where they've been captured! It's happened twice in your lifetime, you know it could happen so don't take the chance!' 'There's a reason why it's only happened twice. Besides, wouldn't think make cool stories to tell?'

And so he decided. Besides, dolphins really liked boats for some reason.

Ducking his head back under the water, his dorsal fin on his back skimmed the surface of the water as he headed towards the boat as quickly yet as quietly as possible.

He hoped he wouldn't regret this.
