Clover🍀

Terry caught me off guard with that kiss. It was my second kiss ever, and I think I did a pretty good job of not completely exploding.

After a few seconds he pulled away. I wished I could see him. After all this, I just wished to see his face. What he looked like, but I couldn't. I did have one option though.

"Everything okay?" He asked after I didn't say anything.

"What- Terry- what do you look like?" I stammered.

"Huh?"

"Sorry, sorry! I just thought-"

"No it's fine, I just wasn't expecting it. I don't know how to describe myself. I mean, my hair is brown and ruffled. I have green eyes. I also have pale skin.  But I don't know what else to say."

I found his shoulders and raised one of my hands close to his face. "C-can I?" I could tell he really didn't want me to.

"Sure, I guess if you really want to." He said.

I stroked my hands gently over his face, careful not to make anything awkward. I figured he didn't like me doing this since his face was all scrounged up. I removed my hands quickly after realizing this. Maybe he just doesn't trust me enough.

His skin was very soft and his nose was an average shape. I felt his eyes, they were wide and big. His hair was silky and was ruffle like he had said. His head had a round shape to it and then a slightly more pointed chin part.

"You have a very symmetrical face," I said.

"Thank you?"

"Heh, it's a good thing. I can imagine what you look like, kind of."

We spent the next hour listening to the bands and asking less personal questions. His mom came to pick us up and they dropped me off at my house. Terry gave me a kiss on the cheek and I was determined to tell my parents that that was all that had  happened.

"So, spill the beans gurrl!" My mom said poking me.

"It went fine."

"Just fine?"

"Yeah, mom some things stay secret," I said giggling.

"Ugh, fine, okay let's get you to bed."

New years was great. I spent it with my parents and we called some relatives over the phone.

Max called me the day after to schedule our date. I had partially forgotten about that. I think I made my choice. Terry was great, but I didn't want to decide without hanging out with Max first.

He told me he wanted me over to his house to cook. That actually sounded really fun, and it would be a way that we could concentrate on something else.

Our parents approved and I arrived at his house. I had never been there before, so I was scared to make a fool of myself.

"Hey Clover," he said happily.

"Hey Max, so, what are we making?"

"Oh, I thought we could make cookies together, is, is that okay?"

"It's great! Where did you get that idea?"

"It's embarrassing, but I read on a horoscope page that a Virgo's perfect date would be making cookies, so since you're a Virgo, I figured you'd like it. Do you?"

"Well I guess that horoscope was right, because I love baking. It's a hobby."

Max had bought the box mix, but I knew a recipe and asked if he had the ingredients for it.

He said he had all that we needed.

"How come you want to make them from scratch?"

"It always just tastes better. It makes me happy. Happiness is hommade."

"Wow, that could be a quote, you're super philosophical."

"It is a quote dummy, ha ha ha ha ha," I laughed. He laughed with me.

I showed him how to measure the flour onto the measuring cup correctly.

"So, can we ask each other questions?" Max asked.

"Sure, I'll go first, um, whats your favorite song?"

"Um, well, I guess I'll be honest, um Kiss Me?"

"Are you kidding? No way! That's mine too" I said happily.

That's cool! Um, let's see, what would be your top favorite book?"

"I think, have you heard of sleeping freshman never lie?"

"Oh, I think I saw it at a book store, I read the first page and it was hilarious."

I thought for a moment and then asked, "what do you look like?"

"You can feel my face you know. Go ahead."

Without thinking of the flour in my fingers I passed my hands over his face. His hair was more tidy and his skin was slightly rougher than Terry's.

"My hair is brown and my eyes are brown and I have a tanned skin tone."

I smiled and removed my hands. He sneezed.

"You okay?"

"Yeah, just, you put flour all over my face with your hands," he laughed. I laughed with him.

"So, when did it happen?"

"My blindness?"

"Yeah."

"I'd rather not talk about it."

"C'mon, don't shut me out, how will I get to know you if you do?"

"I just," I turned to face him. "I need you to respect my space."

"I bet you would've told Terry. Clover this is just me, trying to be a part of your life, just please let me in."

After he said that, I don't know what demon came over me but I grabbed his shoulders and and then his cheeks and kissed him. I copied what I had done before, but clearly Max was more experienced in that.

This time, I had kissed somebody, instead of somebody kissing me. I don't know why. This kiss with Max seemed more meaningful. It gave me a sense of completion and of relief.

We stayed there for a few seconds, maybe even a little longer than I did with Terry.

I pull away carefully because I'm off balance and have to clutch onto the kitchen counter.

I take a few seconds to realize what I did. What did I just do?! I kissed Max! I kissed Max! What does he think? Does he hate me now?

"Clover? Why did you-"

"I'm sorry, I'm really, really sorry! I don't know what came over me, it was so weird. I'm sorry."

"No need to apologize. I won't lie, I was hoping that would happen."

I take a few seconds of silence and then say, "I don't know what to do next."

"I do, and I want you to be honest. Tell me your story."

"I-I-" I felt my hands clamming up. "I... I'll tell you my story."

He lead me to his couch and I began telling him how the only thing I remembered was waking up with my eyes closed. I told him how I got homeschooled, and how much I practiced to be able to do certain things. I then told him the story of how my parents announced that I would be attending normal school.

He laughed, remembering the first time we spoke to each other. He confessed that he didn't really like the idea of going to school with me at first. We talk about our perspectives on that first time we went to Starbucks. I got to know him so well, I just needed to find out one more thing.

"Max?"

"Yeah?"

"What is, love... to you?"

"To me?"

"Yeah, to you."

"Love, to me, its... you."
