  Y/N'S POV

I leaned on T'Challa's shoulder and held his hand saying,"Baby, you are the brightest man I know, but this is a father/daughter moment. Our daughter, Maelen, needs you right now. There's nothing I can do to help her."

I nodded and looked up at T'Challa, who asked me,"How will I know what to say to her?"

I pecked his lips multiple times and said,"Trust me, T'Challa, you'll know. You'll get through to her. I have faith in you. I'll let her know I'll be with Nakia."

   Y/N'S POV

I found Maelen trying to draw Okoye, which did not seem to bother Okoye that much. I was quite surprised Okoye did not dismiss Maelen, but they did have a special bond with one another.
Maelen was 17 years old and every day she spent time with Okoye. Often times, Okoye would teach Maelen different ways to defend herself in certain situations. Maelen took every single piece of advice to heart.

When Okoye noticed me, she bowed and I bowed back.

Maelen noticed me and smiled saying,"Mother, look what I drew. Do you like it? It's not quite done yet, but I need an opinion on it."

Maelen showed her drawing to Okoye and I. I complimented her work.

Okoye said,"Well done, Maelen. That is a true work of art. It looks just like me."

A huge smile appeared on Maelen's face and she wanted to show her father.

I stopped her and said,"Maelen, you can show your father, but it is time you talk to him."

Maelen sighed and looked me in the eyes saying,"Mother, he's always busy trying to protect Wakanda and help his friends. He doesn't have time to check on me."

I lifted Maelen's chin and tried to ease her doubt saying,"Honey, look at me. Your father loves you dearly and you are constantly his first priority. I know things have been crazy around here the last few years, but he will always want to be apart of your life. You're his daughter. I know it depresses you when he is not around to talk to you, like the two of you used to. Now is your chance to tell him how you feel. Stop channeling all those emotions of yours. You get it from me, but it's time to have a real conversation with your father."

Maelen nodded and replied,"Okay. I will go speak to him. Can you come with me?"

I chuckled and nodded saying,"Of course, but I will not stay. This is for the two of you. I must go with your Aunt Nakia. We must go represent Wakanda back in America."

Maelen walked with me, and I saw T'Challa looking out on his kingdom. He turned and saw Maelen and I.
Maelen bowed to him and T'Challa bowed back, before they both looked at me.

I said,"Guys, C'mon. Maelen, just talk to your father. T'Challa, listen to her. Hear her out. I have to go. I love both of you."

I walked up to T'Challa and gave him a kiss, whispering a "good luck" in his ear. I also gave Maelen a kiss and squeezed her shoulder, before I went to meet up with Nakia.

    MAELEN'S POV

I really wished Mother could have stayed, but she was right. Father and I actually haven't had a conversation in a while.
Father looked at me and motioned for me to sit down. I sat down, and he sat in front of me.

He slowly rested his hand on my leg and said,"Maelen, I know I haven't spent much time with you and that one is on me, but I want to know how you feel about me. As your father. I don't mean to ignore you and I just..need to know what causes you to distance yourself from me."

I looked down at my lap and back up at Father, admitting to him,"I..I love you, Father, I do, but I feel like Mother is the only reason you acknowledge me. I feel like you are more so a friend, than a father. Someone I see and talk to every now and then, but not all the time. Father, I just..I want to be your daughter. I want to be able to count on you and come to you when I'm scared, but I don't know how to. I..I don't know if you even like me as your daughter or if you're disappointed in me. Are you?"

As I began to pour out everything that had been inside of me, tears fell down my face and Father had tears in his own eyes.

He said,"Maelen, I could never be disappointed-How could I make you feel that way? I..I'm so sorry. I acknowledge you because I love you and I want what's best for you. You will always be my daughter, no matter what mistakes you make or will make. From now on, we will spend more time just the two of us. You can come to me by just coming to me. You don't have to ask, just come. You can always count on me, okay? I don't care whether you take that throne or not. I hope you will, but that decision is up to you. You just need time and I can help you when you are unsure, okay?"

I smiled at Father and immediately got up, embracing him.

Father hugged me back and placed a kiss on my forehead saying,"Maelen..Maelen, you will always be my daughter and I love you. I'm sorry for not saying it enough."

I replied,"I love you, too, Father, and it's okay."

    Y/N'S POV

When Nakia and I saw T'Challa and Maelen hugging, Nakia chuckled and nudged me saying,"What did I tell you? I knew they would make an effort to talk to one another. It may take more than this, but they'll both be okay."

I smiled and said to Nakia,"I know. I hate lying about leaving, but it was worth it. It was worth it."
