A New Threat

Chapter 1

This is the horrible day. The day that went downhill towards the time that the sun was setting. It was just a normal day for the married couple.

Shadow hummed softly to himself as he walked through the city. He was going to visit a sister-like figure along with her husband who was practically a brother by now. Along the way, many people greeted him with a smile and he did the same. The club came into view and Shadow happily strode in. He was greeted with Knuckles, Rouge's husband. He smiles towards Shadow and quickly walks over to him, giving him a small hug.

"How have you been?" Knuckles asked. Shadow smiles again.

"Fantastic. Sonic is currently at Amy's cafe, buying himself some tea and a muffin for me." Knuckles chuckled.

"What's with you and muffins?" Shadow shrugs.

"I don't know. I just really like muffins." Rouge came into the room and she smiled as she walked over and gave Shadow a big hug. Shadow returns it, smiling into Rouge's shoulder. They pull away from each other.

"Hey, hon. I hope that life is treating you well." Shadow nods, a big smile still on his muzzle.

"Of course. It's been the same since Sonic and I got married." Rouge chuckles.

"Right. Well, why are you here? Did you come here to visit us?" Shadow nods.

"Yep. Just wanted to see how you guys were doing." Rouge shakes her head, a big smile on her face.

"Shadow, you're too kind." The striped hedgehog chuckles. Just then, his phone rang. He reached into his pocket and answered his phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey, babe," Sonic responded. Shadow blushes slightly even though he was smiling like an idiot.

"Hey! Are you still the cafe?"

"No. I just left. I was wondering where you are at." Shadow chuckles nervously.

"I'm at Rouge's Club right now. I decided to come visit them." Sonic sighs, though it was a light sigh.

"You're too nice. Well, you should probably come home soon. I have something fun planned for us tonight. You know, to celebrate." Shadow chuckles again.

"Celebrate what?"

"... us." Shadow's smile widens.

"Aw." Sonic chuckles.

"Now come back home." Shadow sighs happily.

"Okay. See you then."

"Love you."

"Love you too, Blue." Shadow ends the call. He puts the phone into his pocket and looks at the couple in front of him. Rouge quietly shoos him away, a big smile on her face. Shadow smiles back and mouthed a simple thank you. He quickly leaves the club and speeds back to his house. He saw Sonic at the front, about to open the door.

"Sonic!" The blue hedgehog's head snaps around and before he could react fast enough, he was tackled to the ground. He grunts loudly as the air was knocked out of him. Shadow snuggled into Sonic's neck, causing the blue hero to chuckle and look down at the figure on top of him.

"Shadow... you didn't need to tackle me," Sonic wheezed. Shadow chuckles before pushing himself off of Sonic. 

"Sorry. Guess I just got excited." Sonic chuckles before standing up himself. 

"Come on. We need to start our celebration." Shadow nods eagerly, following Sonic into the house. The two sit on the couch, Sonic grabbing the remote and turning the TV on. The screen flashed and Shadow gasps as their favorite movie come on. No romance but something else. Harry Potter.

"You son of a gun," Shadow mumbled. Sonic smiles before reaching into the paper bag next to him. He pulls out a large, chocolate muffin and places it in Shadow's lap. The striped agent looks down and he smiles broadly.

"Thank you, Sonic." Sonic smiles and sweetly kisses Shadow's tan cheek.

"Your welcome, babe." Shadow giggled before snuggling into Sonic. He wrapped his arm around Shadow's shoulder, the two looking at the TV. The scene when Ron is seen with the blond chick and they're kissing brought up an interesting thought that has been occurring to him lately. Hermione and Harry were talking on the stairs when the couple ran in, trying to find a room for privacy. Hermione cast a spell and sent the two running before collapsing on the stairs, crying. Sonic glanced down at the happy, muffing-eating hedgehog under his arm. He looked inside of himself and tried to find that fire of love that he felt for Shadow before... but his heart felt empty. He could no longer feel that love. His ears fall slightly as he looks back at the TV. He didn't want to break Shadow's already shattered heart, but he didn't want to stay in this marriage if he wasn't happy with it. He looks back at Shadow. Those ruby eyes shone with such happiness that Sonic was afraid to break.

"Hey, Shads." He looks up at him. Sonic gulps silently.

"I need to go to the bedroom real quick. I think I forgot something in there." Shadow smiles as he got up.

"Okay, but be quick." Sonic nods before getting up and quickly going upstairs. He takes out his phone and goes to Amy's contact. He quickly types a message before sending it.

S: Amy, I need to ask you a question.

A few minutes passed before Amy responded.

A: What is it?

Sonic takes a deep breath before typing out his message, thinking each word through and through.

S: I've... recently haven't been happy with my marriage with Shadow. I don't know how to break it to him. I mean, should I tell him or should I listen to my needs? I seriously need help with this, Ames.

His message was read but Amy didn't respond right away. Sonic bites his lip nervously and his heart skipped a beat as he saw the dreaded three dots. After a minute, Amy responded.

A: Sonic, if you're not happy with your marriage, then I suggest to break it to Shadow lightly. Don't be too blunt with what you want. But, why do you want a divorce? You and Shadow seem so happy together.

S:... I don't know. I just don't feel the same love for Shadow that I did before.

The three dots appeared for a few seconds before one word came through.

A:... Okay

Sonic shuts his phone down before taking a deep breath and walking downstairs. Shadow hears him and instantly tore his eyes off of the TV to see Sonic walking over to him.

"Hey. Did you find what you needed?" Sonic takes a deep breath before looking at Shadow's eyes. Dread swam in pools within his emerald orbs.

"Shadow, I need to talk to you about something."
