HOW TO MAKE A BOAT IN A NUTSHELL

If you crack a walnut really carefully the shell will break into two perfect halves. In minutes you can transform them into boats which will float beautifully on water.

Tip: If you dip a walnut in warm water for five minutes, and then break it, it will break into two halves. This tip will be useful for this activity as well as whenever you want a full walnut for decorating dishes or whatever ...

Cut a rectangle of paper to create the sail. You can decorate it if you like. Thread a cocktail stick through it to form a mast.

Push a small lump of modeling clay into the middle of the walnut half. Push one end of the cocktail stick into the modeling clay.

Grab a friend and head off to the nearest stream. Launch your boats and see which one sails into the sunset the fastest.
