_____
hanami (kanji: 花見, "flower viewing") is the japanese traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers; flowers ("hana") are in this case almost always referring to those of the cherry ("sakura") or, less frequently, plum ("ume") trees. from the end of march to early may, cherry trees bloom all over japan.

the family members were enjoying themselves while sitting on a picnic mat under the cherry blossoms in laughter and contentment. they drank sake and the conversations they were having didn't seem to be dying down anytime soon.
the six year old was bored out of his mind though. the adults weren't conversing about robots or pokemon or anything else that he cared about for that matter. he wasn't allowed to even touch the sake; which is understandable. i wish yoongi hyung was here, he thought.
yoongi was his best friend, and he was at home across the ocean in south korea. he had insisted for him to join them on their trip to japan. his mom even happily welcomed him, until he fell sick right before the day they left.
he sat quietly on the edge of the mat, and he had his shoes on. he stood up while observing his family but they didn't seem to notice him.
he then tugged on his mother's shirt. "can i go and look around the trees?" he requested.
the thirty year old woman had her eyebrows raised. "we'll go and look around together, darling. you can wait a few more minutes, right?" his mother's tone was warm and sweet as she lovingly caressed his head.
he pursed his lips though he obediently nodded.
their spot was quite at the far end so there were only about two or three trees near them. had they walked a little bit further they would have found a much better spot for hanami but of course the place was crowded and filled with people; both locals and tourists.
he huffed and played with the hem of his shorts then tapped his feet on the ground.
if i go only for a few minutes she wouldn't notice, would she? he thought to himself.
no one was paying attention to him anyway.
he got up again, then slowly but happily walked away and wandered around the aesthetic sakura trees.
this is fine, mom's not going to be mad at me. i'll be back before she even notices i'm gone.
the sight was beautiful, and that's an understatement. he was only a little kid, and even he was mesmerized by the pretty pink petals that were blooming. he observed attentively as he walked among the people; his tiny figure almost invisible.
he remembered his mother telling him about how cherry blossoms only bloom once a year, and the fact that his father had hit a 50,000,000₩ jackpot right around the time when they do. he just had to bring his entire family including both of his parents, to kyoto right there and then.
i really do wish yoongi hyung was here though.
he wandered and wandered, his family still in sight. then something caught his attention.
there was.. what looked like to be a portal; an opening of some sort. positioned between two trees, it was huge, dark and almost resembling a circle? like a gateway and you can step into it.
the portal opening thing was approximately three or four steps away from where he was standing, so he did what most bright and curious kids his age would do.
he walked right into it.
//
nothing is happening.
he was probably just seeing things; he drank way too much green tea.
he then looked around and saw the exact same view with the same sounds; his heartbeat rapid for no reason.
he should probably go back to his family now.
where were they again?
he turned his head a few times and not once did he see a familiar face.
oh no.
