25. Fools

Jeremy wrapped his arms around my body and while kissing my forehead. I had been crying for a few hours after receiving the enigmatic call from Damon. "I hate to see you so sad."

I looked into his kind brown eyes while sobbing. "My brother is not gone! He's just lost because of Katherine."

"Katherine?" Jeremy sat on the couch and stared at me. "Katherine died. Why would he be acting out because of her?"

I sighed and the caressed his cheek. "You have to promise me not to tell this information to anyone. Your life is at stake." He nodded and I sat straight on the couch beside him. "I don't know how, but Katherine took over Elena's body and I'm pretty sure she's in danger."

Jeremy furrowed his eyebrows. "How do you know that?"

"Matt has been compelled by Nadia to help Katherine fool everyone and making us believe she's actually Elena." My eyes darted the entire room to make sure we were not being watched. "I figured it out and confronted her but she threatened your life and I had no other choice but to keep quiet."

"That's why you've been so hostile towards Elena." He looked at me. "Because you know she's actually Katherine." He stood up. "Where the hell is my sister?" He asked with a panicked look in his eyes.

I shook my head. "I don't know." Then, I had an idea and grinned at my boyfriend. "But I bet Nadia knows." Suddenly, I got a text from Tyler to meet him at the back of the Grill. "I have to go meet Tyler but I promise I'll get answers." I kissed his lips softly and left the house. Jeremy was really confused but at least I was honest.

The Grill was empty, except for the back. I walked behind the counter and opened the door that accessed the back of the Grill. I saw Nadia sitting on a chair while Tyler was standing behind her and Matt was unconscious. "I'm scared to ask what happened." I said while glancing at poor Matt.

Tyler looked at me and Nadia rolled her eyes. "What took you so long?" He asked, frustration was clear in his voice.

I closed the door and rolled my eyes. "Damon called and I was a little down..." Nadia looked bored and Tyler was pacing around impatiently. "And it's my birthday."

Nadia looked at me and smiled. "Happy birthday! My mother was quite fond of you."

Tyler growled at her and then looked at me. "She's even worse than Katherine! Can you believe she manipulated Matt into feeling sorry for her with a sappy story about her childhood?" He ran his hand through his hair.

I looked at Nadia and then nodded. "She is her mother's daughter..." Nadia Petrova glanced at Matt and I could see a glimpse of worry inside her eyes. "But then again, she actually cares unlike her cruel mommy."

Nadia glared at me. "Katerina Petrova wasn't cruel!" She spat in disgust. "She was a survivor."

"You keep saying 'was' when you should be saying 'is'." I stared her down and she gasped in shock. "Come on, did you really think you could fool me? I'm actually surprised Katherine didn't tell you I knew her little secret."

Tyler looked at me in confusion. "Katherine is alive?"

I chuckled slightly. "Not only is she alive, but she's residing in Elena's body." I smirked at Nadia. "It's impressive, but I don't understand how you pulled it off."

"And you will never know." Nadia glared at me and stood up from the chair. "I will not betray my mother." She walked to the door but Tyler stopped her.

They struggled to maintain control in the fight but Tyler was stronger and accidentally bit her. "Tyler?" Matt asked, confused by what he just saw. Nadia slid down the wall and looked at the hybrid. 

Nadia looked at her forearm that was starting to infect. "You bit me." She said before glaring at Tyler Lockwood.

I looked at Nadia and shook my head. "Nadia, I can help you with that. Just tell me what you and Katherine did to Elena."

"I would rather die from the bite than betray the woman who gave birth to me." Nadia said calmly.

I sighed and then crouched beside her. "Do you know where Katherine is right now? She's at a motel trying to seduce my brother Stefan. If she wanted a second chance at life, then why isn't she spending time with you, her own daughter?" I glared at the vampire in front of me. "She manipulated you like she manipulates everyone around her."

Nadia looked at all of us with sorrow in her eyes. "She's a Traveler and used her powers to possess Elena. The only way to save her is to stab her with a Traveler's Knife." Tyler and I looked confused but Matt nodded, knowing what she was talking about.

I arrived home and saw Caroline and Stefan sitting on the couch, talking. "Hey! You're back." I smiled at Stefan and he looked troubled. "Something happened, right?" I walked to the fireplace and grabbed a bottle of wine that I stashed behid the bookcase.

Stefan looked at Caroline and nodded. "My car broke down and Elena and I decided to head to a motel to rest and wait for the car to be fixed." I nodded, knowing what happened. "She decided to take a shower and she kissed me." I gasped in shock.

"Which is so not like Elena." Caroline stated. "She's hopelessly in love Damon!" The blonde flailed her arms dramatically.

Stefan nodded in agreement. "And it got me thinking... What if Elena is not Elena?" I gave him a knowing look and he furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you know that we don't?"

I took a sip of wine from the bottle and then glanced at my brother. "Remember when Katherine asked to talk to Elena alone before she died?" The nodded in expectation. "Well, she used some sort of spell to possess Elena's body so she wouldn't die. There is a way to get our friend back, though."

"How?" They asked in unison.

"It involves stabbing Katherine with a Traveler's Knife that Matt can get." I shrugged and they looked at me as if I was insane. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't sure that it would work but it was our only option. We have to get rid of Katherine Pierce for good, this time.
