Christopher awoke sometime in the early morning hours. He showered got dressed and went downstairs to the kitchen where the cook was preparing breakfast for the family. Breakfast sir she asks? Just a muffin and coffee will be alright this morning. I really do not have much of an appetite. Have you seen my mother and father this morning? I really must talk to them.I believe that your folks are in the foyer awaiting their breakfast, young master.
Thank you cook, Christopher said as he went toward the foyer where indeed his mother and father were waiting. Mother, father I must talk to you. It is very important. Christopher dear please sit down. Cook will have breakfast any minute. We have a big and busy day ahead of us and we will need all the energy that we can muster up.
I am not very hungry this morning mother. Listen I have something that I need to tell you both.I have fallen in love with the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen in my life, and I intend to marry her.I can not go to the homeland and be someone that I am not and marry someone that I do not love.
Now, son, we talked about this yesterday and you really have no choice. As your father, I hear what you are saying but as your king, you will do as you are told and come home to where you were born and act like the prince that you are. Now eat your breakfast like your mother said and do not pout it will give you wrinkles.
For the rest of that morning and most of that day, Christopher moped around the mansion and pondered how he was going to get out of going back home and for the life of him he just could not come up with a way that would not in danger both his and Christine's' life. The soldiers and everybody else in the house had been strictly instructed not to let Christopher leave the grounds. How and what was he going to do now that he was grounded so to speak. Somehow he must tell Christine that he is leaving earlier than he expected and that they would never see each other again. The thought of never seeing Christine ever again made Christopher cry.
As Christine began to pack her belongings that she would take with her on the long train ride to her motherland, she remembered when she first saw Christopher. It was in the bookstore. She will never forget those ocean blue eyes of his. The sound of his voice and the way that he kissed her. Oh, why did she have to leave so soon after falling in love? Christine couldn't believe her luck. She finally falls in love with the man of her dreams, with the man that she has been looking for her entire life, her soul mate and now she has to leave him behind. The world is trying to drive me nuts, she said.
The bookstore! Why didn't she think of that before? Maybe if she went there and sent a message to him he would come and they could say their goodbyes. What a great ideal she thought. Christine hurried to get dressed and ran to where she had parked her car last night got in turned the key and nothing happened. The car would not start. Good grief! Of all the things to happen on the one day she couldn't afford it to, her stupid car breaks down. She quickly ran back into the house grabs the keys to her fathers' pickup truck and got in. Please dear lord let this heap of a truck start. Hoping with all the hope that she could mustard she turned the key. Varooom went the truck and as fast as the old truck would go Christine headed for the bookstore
While Christopher lay on his bed quietly crying inside a knock came on his bedroom door. Christopher my dear he heard his mother say. A messenger has arrived with a message for you. Do you want me to send the messenger away or can you pull yourself together long enough to come down and see who sent it and what it says? Go away mother I will be down in a moment. Give the messenger some tea while he waits for me. Very well dear, but please do not linger long we still have a lot of things to do today before we leave and time is wasting away.
Time, just what I need but don't have enough of, Christopher said to himself. Somehow Christopher pulled himself together and got dressed. His heart was broken, there wasn't anything that could mend it right now or ever let alone a message., but as his mother said time was wasting away and he had a lot of things to do before they left. Christopher ran down the stairs to see what and who had sent him a message this early in the morning. When Christopher saw who had sent the message he suddenly got weak in the knees and plopped into the chair that just so happened to be right behind him. He just could not believe this eyes or what he had just read. Christopher I must see you please meet me at the bookstore at 10 all my love Christine.
She loved him woo hoo she really loved him. Now if only there was some way that he could escape this god awful place of a home. The wine cellar! That is right he had forgotten that the wine cellar leads to the courtyard around in the back and it just so happened to not be any guards there at this hour in the morning not till 9 at least so he had best do what he is going to do fast.
As fast as his legs could run he headed down through the kitchen and down the cellar steps. He opened the back door and there stood the old motorcycle he had once named Sir Galahad. Boy how he loved that old thing. With all the hope that he could mustard, he got on and hit the kickstart, nothing. Once again he hit the kickstart this time it came to life. Putting on his old helmet he zoommdd away to the bookstore before it was too late.
