seventeen: never be the same

It was well into the early morning after the Leafs had lost 7-3 to the Bruins when William finally showed up to Rowan's apartment. He had texted her shortly after the loss and asked if he could come over. She knew he would be upset, so she immediately said yes.

William knocked on her door at close to 3 am. She had stayed up waiting for him after she woke up to go to the bathroom at around 2. She opened the door and saw William, still in his suit, his hair disheveled with big bags under his eyes, indicating a lack of sleep.

Rowan pulled him inside and pulled him into a hug, wrapping her small body around his much larger one. She rubbed his back in an attempt to comfort him. He was lost. The team had played pretty terribly, and he was visibly extremely upset about it.

"Hi, baby." She murmured into his shoulder and he kissed her hair. "Hi." He mumbled like a small child. She smiled and pulled away from him, rubbing her thumb across his face and pulled him in for a long, slow kiss. William relaxed at that and Rowan pulled away a few seconds later.

"Can we just cuddle." He whispered and she nodded. William followed Rowan into her room and stripped of his entire suit, staying in his boxers only. Rowan was already wearing pajamas, a pair of spandex and a Marlies shirt she inherited from William, so she didn't need to change.

"I just want to hold you." He mumbled and Rowan nodded, moving towards William. He wrapped his arms around her and she leaned into his chest. William kissed her forehead softly and Rowan felt herself dozing off. "I love you, Rowan McDaniels." He whispered and she smiled hugely. "Love you more, Nylander."

Their first I love you wasn't extravagant. They didn't say it at a fancy dinner and William didn't have a big speech planned out. It was short and it was sweet and it was them.

The two had never been so happy. And they both knew that once they laid eyes on each other in the bar, things would Never Be The Same.
