I'm Sorry

I wake up to see that the TV in the hotel room is still up...still up in this empty room. I throw up the sheets and swing my legs to the side of the bed. My body just waddles over to the balcony; my arms follow dropping over the railing. I look out to the comforting orange glow that reflects off of the shimmering waves. Maybe I should go for a walk too, it's not like I'm obligated to feel sad; Cameron can go ahead and screw himself. I move to my luggage and throw on a sleeveless shirt with the school logo and cyan shorts. On my way to the door I grab the rest of my crap. I'm already in the elevator by the time I hear the door clos-

"Wait up plea-Oh hey, Nash" Matthew moves his body through the rest of the doorway after just stopping the doors from closing with his arm. My head turns to the reflective gold surface of the walls, all I have to do is endure 15-30 seconds in he-we're not moving. Whoops, I forgot to push the button for the ground floor, I reach for the button when Matthew all of sudden decides to grab my hand.

"What is it Matthew?"

"You're being a bitch"

"Thanks Matt, I'll make sure to add it to the list of things I need to work on", the door had just closed but we remained stationery

"That's not what I mean, I thought we were friends after last night", what did I do last night seriously.

"..sooo you don't hate me anymore..."

"I never hated you, I was just indifferent man, chill" He presses the button and we descend

"Hate to break it to you man, but I don't really remember much from last night"

"It's fine, we can still try to be friends though!" He dismisses

The doors slide away and reveal a stone faced Cameron, I brush passed him into the lobby. Matthew is probably confused now, but I can't bother myself to get upset right now. I push past the lobby doors only to be met with a comforting breeze, the smell of salt, and encasing heat. I go around for a walk within a mile of the hotel, and I stumble upon some surf shack. I rent a surfboard and buy swim shorts because I was stupid enough not to wear those instead.

The waves weren't really tough, still fun though, as soon as I wiped out for the 7th time I got too tired to continue. All I've been able to do is admire the weather, it just helps me take my mind off things I guess. As I lay down on my board while the waves bob up and down, I notice that the lights are starting to seem visible in stores; guessing that's my cue to go back to the hotel. I go into the store and-

"HEY! Watch where you're swinging that", my board must've hit this guy. He looked in shape and pretty tall with brown hair and eyes to match. He's also wearing a sleeveless shirt and red skinny jeans, and there's a red flannel button up that's tied around his waist too.

"I'm sorry-err..um"

"Mendes. Shawn Mendes" he put his hand out

"Nash Grier", and I connect our, hands sealing the greeting. His eyes travel to my shirt and then back to my face, as if he just reali-

"OH! You're that new kid. I'm actually in your grade but you always seemed like you didn't want company. So are you staying at the hotel?"

"I'm actually heading back right now." We both exit the shack and I look out to the now darkened sky and then back to the hotel, the most annoyed sigh escapes my lips. It super dark, and the weather is getting a little bit chillier. I turn back to...um...Shawn was his name I think.

"Well see yah" I say with a smile. He courses his hand through his hair backwards, for a second I'm almost hypnotized by how much his arm flexes with such a simple gesture; ugh I need to stop. Besides it's not like he's gay, I'm just going end up doing something stupid.

"Yeah, um did you want me to walk you back to the hotel? It's gotten really dark and I'm sure my friends wouldn't have a problem if I went to the hotel early"

"Oh you're staying there too? Could've mentioned that." I smirked. We start walking and passing many faces, places, and smells that make nose flare and mouth drool out a waterfall.

"Just making sure creepy looking kids like you aren't gonna break into where I'm staying" He laughs

"HEY! We're in the same grade, you can't call me a kid!"

"I'll call you whatever I want" All of sudden a breeze decides to be a dick and chill me right down to the bone. I shiver and rub my arms up and down as goosebumps form. Shawn is fidgeting around with something next to me, but right now I'm busy trying to battle this breeze of sub-zero death.

"Here" I turn to see his flannel is unraveled and in his hand being offered to me. Should I take it or-

"Thanks", I say, the question wasn't even worth asking. I put on the flannel and button a middle button.

We go on and on, apparently he sings and was planning on making it big. We stopped to pick up some drinks and a snack from a convenience store, PlesenSix. We finally make it to the hotel and walk to the elevator, while inside we exchange numbers. My floor comes up first and we part ways.

"Bye, this is my floor"

"Alright. Have a good night man" Shawn responds

I push through the door in a happier mood, and see Cameron in underwear on his bed pressing away on his phone. He doesn't even bother to glance at me...the TV is still on too, looks like he changed the channel though. I strip and collapse on my bed, pulling the sheets over me. I turn off my lamp, and get comfortable with headphones and my phone. I was thinking of watching House of Cards since Shawn recommended it to me. My headphones are yanked away from my ears, the culprit being none other than Cameron towering over me.

"I'm sorry", he says stone faced
