ALLISON'S POV
I was visiting Manhattan. The Big Apple, NYC, whatever you could call it.
It was simply spectacular. The buildings were so tall, you'd have to fall back to even look at some. The metal gleamed in the June sun, highlighting the long, angular twists and turns of the city. People bustled by indifferently, some people on their cellphones, others glancing up as wistfully as I. It was certainly a new, fresh experience.
Coming from the quiet shoreside of Maine, I was completely unused to the stunning and yet... painstakingly chaotic landscape. It was actually quite dirty and chaotic. After a good hour of exploring, I was already exhausted. I retreated to the outskirts of the city thereafter.
I found a concrete... wall almost. Sitting down, I opened my purse.
1 new message from Carter Way.
I sighed, shutting my phone. I... didn't feel like answering her right now. No offense to my friend intended, but I was too exhausted to put up with her rambling.
There were too many people talking here. It was too loud...
Quit complaining, Allison. You can deal with a few people talking... well, maybe you could if this idiot would give you some space!
"Excuse me," I huffed, standing up to take my leave. However, once I was a somewhat good distance away from the spot, I noticed this man continue to follow me.
...shit.
I picked up my pace. What was this guy doing?! Following a person in broad daylight.
J-Jesus, of all the times...
My breathing went fairly ragged as I began to jog, glancing back every few seconds. The man was still following me. Oh dear Lord, there was no way I could fight this man off.
And suddenly, he broke into a full on run.
I shouted something lost to the wind and found myself being pinned up against a glass window. The man grappled for my bag.
Just... give him the bag. It's not worth it. It's really not worth it.
I could feel the surface behind me falter. Before I could react, it completely collapsed.
As I hit the ground, I could feel several things digging into my back at once. My voice managed to produce some sort of noise akin to scrapping nails on a chalk board.
The man stepped back, quickly turning tail and running off.
Slowly, my eyes shut. I couldn't keep them open anymore... they hurt far too much. I heard a sudden explosion of muffled voices.
"WHAT THE HELL?!" someone shouted.
"Who would treat a random person like that?" someone else screamed.
"Ahh... w-what the hell...?" I bit back the burning sensation in me and attempted to get up, putting my arm against the ground as I attempted to get up. Dizziness began to overtake me. "H-Hey...! Lay down, we're getting a doctor!" someone barked.
I didn't respond. "A-Ah shit..." I relaxed my muscles. I'd just... fall asleep for the time being. That... seemed nice...
And the deus ex machina struck again. It may have started out like some sort of fairy tale.
Of course, it ended up feeling nothing like one.
