"Make sure you've got everything sweetie," mom said.
" Yeah I think I have everything except sense of reality!"
"Awww baby, don't worry! You'll be alright. Don't be nervous, it's just like meeting new people. I know you're nervous but you have to do this in order for you to make this huge step in your life!"
"Okay mom, I'm ready."
"Okay sweetie. Honnneyy, Todd's ready. Come on so we can get him there in time."
"I'm coming. You guys go ahead and head out to the car, I'll be there shortly," said my dad. I casually walked to the car, trying not to show how nervous I was, and sat in the backseat scrolling through twitter on my phone.
"Mom, I kind of miss Rob! Why didn't he want to come to the college, I'm going to? He's my freaking twin brother for gods sake!"
"Well, remember when I told you guys that once you pick the college that you want to go to, there's no changing your minds unless you have a very good reason? Well he wanted to go to the University of California or Cleveland State, but he didn't get into the Ohio State University. So I made him choose Cleveland State because it's closer. "
"Mom, he could've applied to the satellite campus then transferred to main campus after a year!"
"Well he didn't think about that nor did your father and I. Sorry sweetie, I realize you miss your other half, but this is where both of you, start your own lives. Your father and I won't be right by your side, every step of the way, but just know, we will support you both every step of the way!" Dad walked out the house and got in the car. He turned around at me, smiled and said "You ready?"
"No dad! I'm not! I miss my brother and it would have been cool for him to room with me, but since he's going to Cleveland State, I have to have a random roommate!"
"Wait wait wait! So you're not nervous about going to college, you're nervous about having to live with someone new?"
"That's exactly the reason why I'm nervous!"
"Dude, look at yourself! You're 5'11", you weigh 175 pounds, and you're buff as fuck! Hell you even bench more than me. When I was your age, I benched 125, but you bench 350! Now tell me, who in their damn mind would have the guts to fuck with a young buff boy? Huh, tell me? No one right? Right! So are you afraid that your roommate won't like you?"
"Thanks Dad, but I'm not scared of anybody, I just hate meeting new people!""Oh Bullshit!" Dad started to pull out the driveway and we were on our way to campus. We live in Cincinnati, Ohio and it takes us about an hour and a half without traffic to get to OSU. Annoyed, I stared out the window daydreaming about what life would have been like if Rob actually got into OSU and was my roommate. It would have been soo fun! Dad looks in the rear-view mirror and says "Todd, I'm sorry if I was a bit tough on you earlier, but you have to understand, the future is inevitable. It was inevitable that you were going to go to college, it's inevitable that you may have to live with someone who you don't know. It's all apart of life. Some things we just have to live with and meeting new people is one of those things! I was just like you when I was younger. I hated meeting new people because I didn't know what to say. But now it's more of a natural feeling type thing. It's just like talking to your friends, have similar types of conversation, just not about anything inappropriate."
"Yeah dad!" I glanced up at the mirror and saw his big blue beautiful looking puppy-dog eyes looking at me sympathetically. I shot a small smile at him and he did the same, which brightened my mood a little. I said "Thanks dad! I don't know what I'd do without you or mom!"
