"What have you done, boy?" Zero's mother looms over him, holding his report card. "Such bad grades, child! I'm terribly disappointed with you!"

Zero had no idea how he was going to deal with it. His parents, no, his family. They were relentless. They showed limited mercy and expected the world from him. Just a boy of Fifteen. Fifteen. That was no way for such a kid to survive. He disgusted his mother. She had shown little interest in him once his younger sister was born. And then she began to dispise him. Actually, if it wasn't for the fact that she was seen as an appropriate caregiver by society, Zero would've been long dead. Although he has to thank his mother in many ways. She did give him medical supplies and showed what little care she had when he was diagnosed.

There was something about his mother that made his skin crawl. And it wasn't good. And he refused to acknowledge her presence most days. She just, in plain terms, pissed him off.

His only salvation from the horrors he endured by his mother's displeasure was his friends. Namely, his friend Ruby and his crush Katrina. Ruby had once dated Zero, a long time ago. However she'd broken him, and left him annihilated inside. He had never felt so emotionally mutilated. By anyone...ever. Not even his mother,  who neglected him soon after he became a diabetic. After this, Zero missed ruby and they'd both decided they'd rather be friends...until maybe one day they fell for one another again.

Katrina on the other hand, was the girl he thought he loved more than anything in the world. Katrina cared so much about him. So, so very much. Katrina appreciated Zero more than anyone else in this godforsaken world did. And Zero wanted her more than anything else in the world. More than freedom from his disease, more than proper parents, more than ANYTHING.

And so Zero sat in the corner of his room, a single tear dropping from his eye. He could hear his mother yelling in his fathers native tongue, the hatred in her voice, the language (which was Welsh) was ear-pearcing to hear for him. He just wanted to be free.

Zero turned to his cupboard, and opened it. He hid inside, closed the door, and fell asleep, hoping he'd never ever have to face the outside world again.
