Opening my bag, I searched for my purse. Looking up at the cashier, I gave a nervous laugh and continued to search, this time with more focus. Tossing a few things out of my bag and onto the counter, I gained a few weird looks. "Shoot" I mumbled before putting a lock of hair behind my ear. Looking back at the cashier I began to put my items back into my bag while explaining how I forgot my purse. Narrowing her eyes while giving me a confused look, she placed both our drinks aside and was ready to call for the next customer.A faint slam of someone's hand hit the counter, and I steered my attention to the 6ft, blue eyed boy. I briefly began flicking my eyes from every corner of his body. He smiled at me before focusing his attention on the cashier. "I'll pay for it" he gently said while handing over the cost of my drinks I had previously ordered. My mouth began to slowly drop. Bringing my attention to what had just happened, I blurted out "No, no, no.. I can't possible let you pay for this". Before walking back to his table he gently said "just trying to do a good deed". Following him with my eyes as he sat down, the lady at the counter then gave back the drinks to me and my brother. Picking them up, we walked over to a free little two seater seat within the middle of the cafe, and began to drink.
"He was nice" Nate, my younger brother said. Placing the coffee cup to my mouth, I took a sip and nodded in reply. Keeping the conversation to a minimum between me and my brother, I mainly kept my focus on the guy who paid for my drinks.
He seemed to be chatting with his parents and maybe his friend or brother. I couldn't tell at that moment in time. Smiling at something his mother said to him, he glanced over at me. Looking like a deer caught in the headlights I diverted my eyes to my half empty coffee cup.
A few moments later, I happened to notice a figure beside me. Slowly glancing up, I gave a half giggle.
"Hi, I was just wondering, if you .. well" he stumbled upon his words a little. "If you would like to perhaps, meet up another time again?" He said shyly while looking down at his feet as he shuffled them slightly to avoid the awkward stare. "Uh.." I paused for a second or so. "I'm not sure," I said half rejecting his offer. "Please don't take it personally, but I don't know who you are, and for all anyone knows, you could be a serial killer" I joked but was half serious about. Nodding his head he gave a half smile before wishing me a good day. Turning around he began to head out the door of the cafe that his parents and his other friend that now seemed like his brother, had just exited only moments before he came over to talk to me. Closing the door behind him, I watched until he was out of sight."Was that really necessary?" Nate spoke, while looking up from his phone. "What?" I snapped.
"Rejecting a really nice decent guy, who paid for our drinks", he added.
Giving him a death stare, I faced in towards the table and cupped my face in my hands. "He was really nice to you, and not being forward or anything, but you have had the worst relationships...". "I know" I grumbled as I began to frown at his wise words of wisdom. Moments of silence had passed before my brother continued. "WELLL..."he exaggeratedly spoke. "What are you waiting for, get up and follow him, and tell him you would love to see him again!". Rolling my eyes at his advice I pushed myself up from the seat and began to half sprint out the door before looking both sides of the footpath. "Damn it" I mumbled. Looking to my left, I decided to go right as I couldn't see anyone to my left side.Just as I was about to start half sprinting down the footpath again, I ran into someone. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry" I said confused as I was looking down at the ground. "It's ok" a warm voice spoke.
I knew this voice. I had known it for years. It was the voice I had woken up to for years, the voice that soothed my every heart ache, the voice that made me laugh, the voice that made me angry, and the voice that made me cry for months, as well as say 'I cheated on you, and I'm not sorry'.
"Can you move" I blurted out. A ball of fire began to burn inside my stomach. "And why should I do that, baby doll" his voice spoke, as he laced those two words.
Baby doll.
Looking away out of shame and hurt, I tried to swallowed the lump that was now forming in my throat. "Because I asked you to" I just about spoke. "Awhh" he mocked. "Is someone about to cry". "Please" he scoffed as he rolled his eyes. "I don't know why I ever wasted my time on you for the past three years. So pathetic you are" He spitted. Shoving his way past me, I wiped the tears that had been falling down my cold cheeks.
Feeling like utter crap, I decided I'd just go back and get my brother and we would go home. As I was about to grab the door handle, someone had grabbed my wrist gently. Looking up with tears still streaming down my cheeks, I was embraced in a hug, whether I asked for it or not.
