He hid them under the bed. He was scared. Why didn't they work anymore? Potato Dave had borrowed Tomas's laser tag guns. He and his brother had been playing with them non-stop because they were so much fun. But when he went to turn them back on they were dead. They had stopped working.
He had gone with his mother to Dollar Tree to buy new batteries, hoping that was the problem. But when he came home and replaced them, they still didn't work. He was starting to panic.
They were coming over today. Tomas and his sisters. What would he do?
Tomas walked into Potato Dave's bedroom. Potato Dave nervously watched his every move. Has he forgotten about them yet? Thought Potato Dave, maybe he won't remember I borrowed them. "Hey could I have my laser tag guns back since you had them for a while?" Potato Dave tried to figure out what to do. He quickly thought of a plan. "Oh, yeah sure!" Said Potato Dave. He reached under the bed and grabbed them. "Thanks for letting me borrow them." Tomas went to turn them on. They didn't turn on. "Huh, are the batteries dead?" Asked Tomas. "That's weird, maybe they are?" said Potato Dave, pretending not to know. Tomas didn't seem too worried. They hung out the rest of the day, mostly with Potato Dave watching Tomas ride bikes with his brother.
Potato Dave gave Tomas a high five. It was several days later and they were having a play date at Tomas's house. "Soooooo did you get the laser tag guns to work?" asked Potato Dave, silently hoping he was say yes. "Oh, I didn't replace the batteries yet, it's whatever," replaced Tomas. Potato Dave let out a sigh. Tomas didn't seem to really care about the laser tag guns. Maybe he would just slowly forget what happened. Hopefully he would never figure out that it might be Potato Dave's fault. He would just keep faking. Acting like he didn't know what happened. Tomas would never find out.
