Chapter Twenty-six: Unconditional love
“Did you do it right?” Lou asked.
“There’s only one way to pee on a stick.” I mumbled into his shirt as he comforted me patting me on the back.
“It’s too late now isn’t it?” I could tell he was trying to add the weeks up. But it was no use, I’m not pregnant and the chances of me getting pregnant now are zero to one. I forced myself over to the bed and stuffed my head into my pillow, and didn’t move for hours. I don’t know where Lou is but I don’t really care, I’ve disappointed him, why would he want me now? I can’t give him what he wants most.
I felt a hand on my back. “Come on sweetie, we have to go to the doctors for a check up.” Lou said patting my back.
“No.”
“Please?”
“No.”
“I love you.”
“Why? I can’t give you what you want.”
“I want you to be safe and healthy.” He kissed be softly on my hand. I sat up and turned around to give him a big long hug.
“I love you too.” I smiled grabbing his hand as he led me to the car and I buckled up to go to the hospital for a check up after the accident. He held my hand the whole way, talking to me about all the things he’d done and all the things that had happened on their tours around the world.
“Where do you want to go?”
“Huh?”
“We should go on a holiday, where do you want to go?”
“Uh... Australia?”
“I love Australia!” He smiled, squeezing my hand lightly.
The doctor took a few blood tests and had a look at my scar to make sure it was all good. He told me I would have to wait about three days until the results will be ready and we have to come back.
“Want to go to the beach?” Lou suggested as we arrived back home.
“Of course, just let me get my bathers.”
“Better hurry.” Lou winked, giving my butt a slap, moving me up the stairs quicker, following me up. “I love this one.” He grabbed the purple one with a floral lace pattern, that was strapless with a metal ring in the middle, and chucked it in my direction getting his red pair of boardies out from his cupboard and sliding them on over his underwear.
-Three days later-
“Why are you still getting sick in the mornings?” Lou complained, holding back my hair.
“It’s just a stomach bug.” I blurted out before emptying the contents of my stomach once more.
“Do you feel alright after?” Lou asked rubbing my back gently.
“No, I feel like I’ve got non-stop cramps.” I complained, wiping my mouth before brushing my teeth and getting ready to go to hospital. “Whatever it is, I’m sure the tests would have picked it up.” I pointed out before dragging myself out to the car with Lou on the way to the hospital to get my results. We walked in with his arm around my shoulder, ready for any news that they were to shoot in our direction.
“You and the baby are completely healthy.” Was all Doctor Day said before looking back down at his paperwork reading through it.
“And... the – the... The baby?” I stuttered.
“You didn’t know?” I shook my head, Lou hadn’t moved, I guess he’s just as stunned as me. “Well, I know you guys wanted a baby, so congratulations. It’s about 3 weeks old.”
“Baby we did it!” Lou cheered kissing me on the cheek and giving the doctor a massive hug.
“I don’t understand. The home test said I wasn’t.”
“They’re not completely reliable, I mean, I thought you would have been looking for the signs, you know, morning sickness.” I nodded my head, oh how I hated that. “Cramps, missed period.” It all added up.
“Well thank you so much doctor!”
“You kids have fun.” He smiled walking out of the room leaving us alone. I turned to face Lou, who had a smile which stretched from one ear to another.
“We’re having a baby!” I screamed, jumping into a massive hug with Lou, I am so excited, my heart is beating at a million miles an hour.
“I know! I’m so happy.” He smiled giving my belly a rub. “They’re going to be so loved.” He smiled kissing my stomach then me, this was the best moment of my life, the miracle child.
“Our little miracle.” I smiled looking into his eyes. “I hope they have your eyes.”
“And your nose and lips.”
“And your hair.”
“And our personality.”
“Our?” I laughed kissing him on the cheek.
“We’re the perfect match, if they have our personality they will be perfect.”
“They’ll be perfect anyway.” I laughed, thinking about how a little person was growing inside of me, and changing. It’s only about a mm big at the moment, but one day, it will be like 5 foot tall and absolutely beautiful.
“Especially if they’re brought up by you.” He smiled, intertwining his fingers with mine, and taking me to the car.
“Wanna know what I wished for?” I asked Lou, who was still holding my hand with the biggest smile on his face.
“Has it come true?” He asked, glancing in my direction quickly.
“Yes.”
“Okay, shoot.” He smiled at me even bigger.
“I wished for just one baby.” I smiled, rubbing my belly, which hadn’t even really changed shape, just a little bloated but nothing major.
“I wished for the exact same thing.” He brought my hand up to his mouth and kissed it lightly. Singing along to some song on the radio. But I didn’t really pay much attention, all that matters to me right now, is that I’m going to be a mummy and I want the best life possible for my child. It’s weird how I can already love this tiny little creature that’s growing inside of me, and I don’t know one thing about it. I only now fully understand a mother’s unconditional love.
