Happy reading!

Two
I woke up sometime during the night, jolting awake from my sleep.
I turned and gazed at the clock, squinting at the brightness as it read 3:00am.
I sighed and flopped back down.
I had been having another nightmare of my parents and how they had gotten killed.
In the nightmare I stood there helpless as they were torn apart by a wild beast. I screamed and yelled trying to get the attention of the crazed animal thinking, Anyone but my parents. Take me!
Sweat spotted the back of my neck and my forehead, my throat was sore.
I often wondered if I screamed aloud in my sleep, I felt bad for Mrs. Hazel.
Throwing the quilt off of myself, I slipped into my converse as I quietly walked to my door.
I peeked out into the extreme darkness of the house, then slowly creeping to the stairs and descending them, making minor, quiet creaks.
I made it out the front door with no noise, quickly realizing I should have brought a coat. The goose bumps rose on my arm exposed to the crisp night air.
Jogging across the street and into the forest, I trained my memory to be able to easily find the path I needed.
Only moments later I stepped through the brush and into the open.
My clearing was brightly lit by the full moon and I strolled up to the tree and simply climbed in.
Cozying myself in the little nook and pulling my knees in close to my chest, I leaned back and watched the twinkling stars above me in awe.
This was the most peaceful place for me, the owls hooting and the chirping of crickets. I thought I could here running water in the distance, like a stream.
I let my eyes drift close feeling the midnight breeze sweep the hair around my face.
Although the occasional snapping of the branch or shuffling of the leaves should have had me in a panic, instead it put me in an unnatural, serene state.
I heard birds chirping and that’s what snapped me back to reality. It was bright out and about midmorning.
I had fallen asleep and I was most likely late to school.
I jumped down from the tree and gasped in pain.
I had scratched my forearm on the rough bark of the tree, it was only bleeding a little, but I would worry about it later.
I sprinted through the forest and out onto the road. Luckily, I noticed, Mrs. Hazel had already left to work her part-time job at a daycare.
I ran into the house and up the stairs, snatching my yellow hoodie and my back pack full of new books and binders off the top on one of the many boxes in my room.
I had enough time to notice it was 9:05 and I was about and hour and a half late to school.
Dashing to my car and throwing it into reverse down the driveway; I tried to maintain my speed as I rushed to school.
I parked in my cruddy parking spot and jogged the rest of the way to the front of the school, pushing my way through the doors.
As I walked into the office I scraped my dark hair into a messy bun.
“Um, Hi,” I said a little breathless to the lady at the front desk.
“Hello, please sign in and tell me what class you are supposed to be in,” she answered gesturing at a clipboard in front of me and pulling out a stack of yellow late passes.
