You. Me. (a poem)

You

Stand there,

Silently, thinking, anxiously,

Trying to explain yourself,

Trying to ask for forgiveness,

But you can't find the words.

You smile half-heartedly and shrug,

Realising that there's nothing to say, except that

You aren't sorry, and that you're glad it happened.

You start to pack your things, assuring me you'll be

Gone by the end of the day. I nod and walk

Away, processing everything. You had told me you loved me, that I

Meant the world to you. But now, you're throwing away everything that we've

Worked for the past three years, just for her. You were like my rock,

Always there when I needed you. You helped me through the worst times

Of my life, always writing me letters to remind me of your

Love, for me. But now, I'll be ripping up your letters

While you rip off her dress. It's fine, go, be

Temporarily happy with her instead of forever happy with

Me. That's the difference between you and I,

I care about people enough to let

Them be happy, while you tear

People apart for your benefit.

You hurt people, and

You don't care;

People like

Me.
