// Hey! This is just the first chapter, so I'm still setting the stage, but it will get more interesting!//
Kaitlyn's POV
I woke up at 6, got ready for school and left my house as fast as I could. Our house is just one story, and it could probably be described as an "upgraded trailer house." I'm 16, and a sophomore in high school in New Jersey. I usually never talk to my mom, she's an alcoholic and is almost always at the bar. When she's not at the bar, she's sleeping. Or she has all of her drunkie friends at the house. She's been like that since I can remember, and I just had to learn how to take care of myself.
My dad left when I was 9, and I still don't know why, but I don't remember a whole lot about him.
My two best friends, Elisabeth and Nicole, both left me about a month ago. Elisabeth is a military family, so she had to be relocated to Germany. Once Elisabeth left, then Nicole left me and went off with another group of friends. So now I'm stuck with no friends. IN HIGH SCHOOL. So I basically have no one.
I'm also a pretty quiet kid, always have been. Especially now that I literally don't have any friends. But I still get straight A's. I spend most of my nights at a homeless shelter, I love helping out less fortunate people and I hate being home with my mom and her drunkies. Plus I've gotten to really know the people at the shelter and they expect me to come most of the time. I'm not obligated to, but I just want to help.
I walked to school, after all it only takes like 10 minutes.
I got to school early, as I normally do, and go to Mr. Weaver's room to help out and I aid for him first period. But today Mr. Weaver had to monitor the morning detention, so I was stuck in a room full of idiots.
10 minutes passed, and some delinquent strolled in late. Of course it was Grayson Dolan. The kid's always getting into trouble, serious trouble. I even heard that he smokes, and he smokes in the downstairs hallway by the lunchroom everyday, which is why the whole place smells like smoke. Grayson was wearing a black vintage hole-y shirt that said "CAGE THE ELEPHANT," blacked ripped jeans and black Vans.
"Grayson, you're late." Mr. Weaver said.
"Yeah yeah," he said waving him off.
Mr. Weaver rolled his eyes at him.I don't get why Grayson is so "cool and popular." He's a bad influence on everyone. How can I be the only one to think that?
45 minutes later, and finally detention was over.
"Grayson, can you come see me." Mr. Weaver stated rather than asked.
Oh great.
"Whatttt!" He groaned as he mosied over to his desk.
"The principal wanted me to tell you that your behavior has gone too far. He talked it over with your parents, and for this week, every day after school you have to go to the homeless shelter downtown and volunteer for 5 hours. You will also have to keep a log of your time spent there and get it signed every day by the person in charge there.""Oh my gosh I'm not fricking doing that! I have better things to do than fricking help homeless losers!"
Except he didn't say fricking.
"Excuse me! Don't talk to me like that! And don't shoot the messenger! You have a problem, talk it up with the principal, or your parents."
"Ughhhhh whatever." And he left.
Are you kidding me! I have to spend my free time after school volunteering at the same place as Grayson! He's going to ruin it!
Well this is just great. I guess I'll see Grayson later tonight. Ew.
