Katherine's Keeper
They say words can't live without love.. But the truth is love can't live without words. Actually nothing can, without the simple way of speaking ,the mind would be blank. Nothing. Nothing at all. Everything would just be boring.
We're not here to write instructions so people know how to do things. You may be here for that not me, I'm here to tell you my story. Well probably the parts I can say without crying or dying.
I'm Katherine Bennett, 16 and quite a strange person. I have had cancer in the past but now it's all gone ... I hope. I love poetry and anything to do with writing my emotions on a piece of paper. I was born in 1997 June 19. I've never had a boyfriend in my 16 years. Now I don't have long left if I still do have cancer but I hope it's until I'm 21. That's my only wish.
I closed my computer and placed it on a box under my bed. I threw the bed covers aside and jumped out of bed.
The bed was next to the window and opposite my bathroom door. I had a closet , it was a walk in one too. I walked over to the mirror brushing my hair behind my ears. I felt the coldness of the cool air hit the top of my ears.
The mirror was all fogged up. No matter how much I tried to see my face I couldn't. So I tied my hair up into a ponytail then quickly got changed.
I picked up my phone just to see a text message from Emma. "Haii K", she wrote I messaged back "hey lift to school please?", then picking my bag up and stumbling into the kitchen.
I grabbed a cereal bar then walked out the door with my phone. Emma was outside with her brother Jai waiting for me in the car.
Jai got out and wrapped his arm around me to help me walk. A smile grew on my face slowly. Emma opened the door for me and Jai put me in the car.
"Okay your crutches are in the back and so is the wheelchair", Jai coughed getting into the back seat.
"Thank you... Jai", I muffled buckling In and crossing my legs.
Now I hate Mondays don't we all. But today I do have Spanish ,French ,English , music and Italian. So in fact thats a good day for me.
Emma switched on the radio and I laid back on the chair twiddling with my hair. I gazed out the window watching the world pass by.
We went over a speed bump and I jumped out of my seat. I do that everyday. I got out the car then slammed the door.
I waited for Jai to give me my crutches to help me up the stairs. After that it's the wheelchair. Jai passed me my crutches and I began walking up the stairs.
My legs were sore ... Really sore. last night I went to the hospital for a pet scan on my legs and I don't get the results till later.
I collapsed on a bench and laid back. Jai was walking up the stairs with my wheelchair but it kept falling to the floor.
A boy sat down next to me and looked at me."hey are you okay?", this boy asked. He was blue eyed , tall , a warm brown colour and brown haired.
"Yeah I'm okay", I muttered catching my breath back.
"Good", he said crossing his legs. "I'm Calum", he said smiling.
"Hey I'm Katherine."
A soft smiles became of my lips and grew as he began smiling.
"You really looked like you struggled up those stairs", Calum said facing me.
"Yeah I have been for the past couple months", He nodded understanding me.
The bell rang and I hopped into my wheelchair and smiled up at him. "What do you have?"
"Spanish in MFL 17". I smiled boldly as that was my class and nobody sat next to me.
"Your in the same class as me", I smiled excitedly
Calum smiled back walking besides me. I rolled up the ramp into the MFL wing. Calum followed me into the class.
"Miss Bennett welcome ... And you sir must be Calum", the teacher Mr stockwell said shaking Calum's hand and showing him to the seat next to me.
I went to my seat and pushed my chair under the desk , reaching for my book I might of accidentally hit Calum's hand. He smiled at me showing me his time table.
"Colour in the lessons I'm with you!" I looked at his timetable grabbed a blue pen and coloured in all today's tomorrow's Thursdays and Fridays lessons and only coloured 3 in Wednesday. "Wow we're In a lot of lessons together", I nodded placing my text book on the table and my Spanish book.
The whole lesson Calum kept looking and smiling at me. I tried to ignore it and work but I could help to smile back.
He was just so cute. Brown eyes , brown hair , very tall and most of all sweet talking. I smiled boldly up at him.
He nudged me slightly when the teacher asked us to get our homework out. Me being me I didn't realise and forgot. Wow just wow me. I was easily forgiven.
My mobile vibrated in my pocket. I answered and I started to cry a little. The word cancer ran through my head again and i didn't want it. But who ever does.
