I was sitting in our living room in Berkeley , California. The perfect way to spend an afternoon when a storm is raging outside. Of course , I first thought about calling one of my few and only friends: Chase, Alicia or Julie, but unfortunately the telephone lines were dead because of the terrible storm that was currently howling outside.
And that's why I was stuck lying on our love seat, with a small but thick book that had the title 'Wuthering Heights' on the front. A classic love story , for a rainy day . Just perfect.
Although I was totally in love with the book – despite how old-fashioned it was - I never got the chance to buy it. Actually, this precious book had been found in my younger brother, Jason's room.
Something that he was never going to live down. Yup, this was so going to be on Facebook, Twitter, and every social-media site known to humanity. It would serve as revenge for that time he decided to pour marinara sauce on me as a 'prank' in the school hallway, in front of all the students -including my crush. Let's just say , that after he had laughed his ass off, I was determined to get my revenge.
Luckily for me, his friends were the type of people who considered anything paper-related 'unmanly' unless they absolutely had to use it, for example in school. As soon as his friends knew that he willingly owned a copy of 'Wuthering Heights' , he would be so screwed.
Mental evil laugh.
My thoughts though, were interrupted by the magnificent book in my hands, as it begged me to start reading its pages. So, pushing the thoughts of humiliating Jason to the back of my mind, I lounged on our modern beige love seat, putting my cup of tea on the coffee table next to me . Once I was comfortable , I picked the book up neatly and began reading.
I was almost at the part where Heathcliff eavesdrops on Catherine's conversation with Nelly Dean, when suddenly the book was snatched out of my hand. I looked up , and was greeted by a sixteen-year-old, six foot figure, also known as my brother, Jason.
Although, I have seen seventeen -almost eighteen now- years of life, I had still failed to figure out how we both were related. We were almost like complete opposites .
Even Though he was a year younger, he still towered over me. Hell! As an afterthought, everyone towered over me with my pathetic height of 5 foot three inches. Also, in contrast to my pale skin, grey eyes and wavy blonde hair, Jason got the darker looks, with his perfect tan skin -that I'm still secretly jealous of- , straight dark hair and chocolate brown eyes, a few shades lighter than his hair.
He clutched the book so firmly in his hands he almost damaged the fragile cover, making me cringe. Though, I shouldn't have been so surprised, my brother was never one for books, hence my surprise at finding 'Wuthering Heights' in his room, especially since the book was known to most guys as 'girly'. But then, aren't all romance books considered girly in their minds?
"I was reading that, you know," I stated the obvious.
"Well, now you're not," he retorted, rolling his eyes.
I narrowed my eyes, crossing my arms over my chest.
Jerk.
"Thank you."
Did I just say that out loud?
He chuckled, "Yup."
I sighed, I really needed to learn to keep my thoughts inside of my brain.
