"Mom, this is amazing" Robbie exclaimed, "you didn't have to do this."

"You deserve it honey, and plus I may have gotten it for a great deal so I couldn't say no." I laughed.

We were standing in the parking lot waiting for the associate to bring the car around. Robert was all antsy and he couldn't keep still.

"Oh my god!" I heard him say.

I looked up to see the red convertible drive towards us.

"It's all yours." he said, gesturing to Robert as he walked over and handed me the keys.

"Thank you" I said before walking over to Robbie.

I tossed him the keys.

"Do you want to go for a drive?" he asked.

I was sitting in the passenger seat of the car as Robbie was driving, we had the top down and music playing out of the radio. Robbie had a huge smile on his face as we rode down a long road outside of town. I couldn't help but stare at him and think back to Penny, he looked so much like him, the only thing he really got from me was his hair and him being left-handed.

"What?" he looked over at me.

"Hm, oh nothing, just happy you're so excited." I rubbed his shoulder.

I was snacking on almonds on the couch, Robbie had taken his car out to meet with friends so that left me here alone. American Psycho was playing on TV so I decided to watch that but I couldn't pay it much attention since my mind was filled thinking about Penny. I couldn't believe it had been over 17 years since I last saw him, it hasn't gotten any easier but I do look back to the memories now and again and they bring a smile to my face. I still have everything he ever gave to me, the music box sits on our shelf in the living room, the clown doll which he won me at the carnival now sits in Robbie's closet and believe it or not, I still have the red raincoat. For many years now I have contemplated telling Robbie about his father but I could never do it. How do I explain it? How will he react? I have to understand he will take the news in his own way, but it would kill me to hurt him.

I was asleep in bed when a loud rumbling woke me. I looked at the clock '1:34am' it read. I got up and looked out the window and I could see the headlights of a car filling up the darkness. I walked to the hallway and to the front door as it was opened. Robbie quietly closed the front and took off his shoes.

"Have a good time?" I asked, making him jump.

"Jesus, mom." He said as he held a hand up to his chest.

"You know just because you have a car now doesn't mean you can stay out all night." i said as my i folded my arm across my chest.

He sighed, "i know i'm sorry we lost track of time."

I watched as he came over to me and kissed me on my forehead.

"I'm sorry." he said before walking away and to his room, closing the door.

I know he's a teenager now but to me he's still the same little blue eyed baby.
