In the process of picking a cover for this writing, I stumbled on one folder in particular that held a lot of photos of my ex-boyfriend. Photos of him, photos of him shirtless, photos of us, photos of us kissing, etc. Two months ago, I would have stopped, maybe opened up one of them, and then written something sappy about missing him. Today, I scrolled past. Today, I looked only for the images of me.
Today, I got my eyebrows waxed, and I brought home a red dress. Tomorrow, I will get my nails done in matte black. This Saturday, I will take my boyfriend to the prom, and we will have the time of our lives. This Saturday, anyone who tries to stop me will regret ever looking my way.
This is the next chapter. I have put my past behind me, and I am so much happier for it.
And to the boy who saved me, should he ever read this:
Garrett,
Thank you for walking into my life at just the right time. Thank you for sparking a conversation about Mexican food. Thank you for listening to me talk about my past, and telling me about yours. Thank you for not judging my past actions, for recognizing that they were out of character. Thank you for being the ray of sunshine I kept looking for. I love you to the moon and back a thousand times.
