This is the first time I'm writing for a contest here on Wattpad (the contest being Wattpad's SciFi short fiction challenge for April 2018). I had lots of fun writing this story, and I hope to participate more in this awesome community in the days to come! "The Bellwether" is exactly 999 words long (just one word shy of the limit, phew!) and is a standalone short story.
