your golden eyes shine like the sun
every time I look at them I see a dangerous kind of fun
intense and bright,
they burn and simmer
but I don't care
for when they're gone, I grow dimmer
without them there is only darkness and night
oh won't you come back and free me from this fright?
swim with me in these pools of spilling, thick honey
but please don't leave if I start to feel funny
I think I may drown
bubbling amongst these heated embers,
unable to make a sound
slowly slipping away for no one to remember
perhaps we can go and pick flowers then?
in the broad, warm sunlight which kisses your skin
do you want a daisy chain or tulip ring?
I promise I'm not making these to confirm my sin
we can lay here and mellow,
watching the clouds breeze by
hidden amongst the sunnyside yellow
feeling euphoric from a dreamy high
but be careful you don't get hurt,
these roses around us have thorns
that may slice you up like a dessert,
even though their petals feel soft like a newborn
confusion appears all over your beautiful face
maybe we should stop
and take a break
these violent delights
are leaving us in a torturous state
we must discuss this elephant in the room
instead of leaving it to grow and bloom
until one night you shall wake me with a fright
enraged and broken;
I am no longer what you thought I might
I should have known; it was plain to see
I was avoiding all the pain and misery
by shifting and ignoring the truth
I was putting on a facade
I'm sorry that I hurt you,
that's the least I can say.
