hey guys just so you know this is an story I did in English and I got high marks for it, so I hope you like it :)
I glanced at my check list one last time, before looking at my familiar room and then steppping into my car. Not forgetting my four legged friendly companion Max who jumped at the back of my four wheel drive. He's tail already wagging in anticipation.
"Wow Max settle down. We haven't even left yet" I laughed at him before putting on my lucky cork hat. I gave National Geographic's one last call about writing of my experience in the Simpson Desert, before I started the ignition and set off. I have always written about my magnificent experiences to the National Geographic's in the past, so I won't be leaving this one out. I have heard that the Simpson Desert is both challenging and a hard landscape to get through, but it seems pretty easy to me. I've gotten through past deserts, so how is this one anymore difficult.I can already feel the excitement caving in as I finally drive out of my friendly town.
It was a four hour long drive from my place in South Australia to the dry, hot Simpson Desert in the North part of South Australia, accepting the amazing scenery as I drive there. There were a lot of kangaroos and wallabies along the way but most animals hid from the heat. It was only mid morning when I set off but it has already started to heat up, causing me to already sweat. I could hear Max panting at the back of the truck with his tongue sticking out like he was about to lick a lolly pop. Max has always been a friendly adventurous dog. He has stayed beside me through my many adventures and the locals just love him. He's a German Sheppard so he has always been a good guard dog as well.
As I arrived at my destination, I could see the deep, red sandy dunes ahead of me. I stopped the ignition for a couple of minutes to admire the view.
"Wow this is an amazing view Max" I utter as I adjusted my cork hat. I scramble at the backseat of my car to get some water out of my backpack. Noticing I have already went through a quarter of my water. "Well Max I guess we just have to watch our amounts" I cough as I wipe my forehead from the already dripping sweat. Grabbing out my compass before I set off into the red dunes, I check if we are still heading North-West, pointing my compass in the right direction, I then start the engine of the car and set off again.
As I drove through the high dunes, the tyres turned against the rough sand making the car move slower then usual. I could feel the burning sun reflecting on the car windows as it reflected onto my tanned skin. As I drove through the dunes, I had a sudden urge to speed up on one of them. Slamming my foot on the acceleration pedal, the car flew up on the steep, sandy dunes, flying up into the air for a couple of seconds, before landing safely onto the ground once again. I turned back to Max and could see him barking way with a huge grin on his face, so everyone knew his happiness. I chuckled before setting my foot on the accelerator again and going up on another dune. But this time it didn't turn out so easily.
"Help, Help!" I screamed out loud, probably loud enough for the whole damn world to hear. I could feel the shattered glass and the heavy weight of the car across my body. I screamed out again louder, before noticing there isn't really any humanity in this landscape. Luckily enough I managed to squeeze through a tiny gateway from the car to the outside world. Brushing off the excess glass from my body, I notice a few cuts on my face, so I grab out the first aid box that I managed to scavenge it through the broken car. But it wasn't the least of my worries. I look to my side to find the compass broken in two along with only a bottle of water left. I start to panic realising I was lost and I was slowly running out of water and food adding on that there was also no human life form in this long, continuous blanket of red sand. I had to make a decision to either stay put with the broken car or try and find a way out before the sun starts to set.
later on......
This desert seemed never ending as I kicked the little sand grains with my shoes. I had been walking for over an hour and still no human contact had appeared or any sense of life. My mouth started to become really dry since I drank my last drop of water an hour ago. The scorching sun seemed to follow me everywhere, never leaving my side. Everything seems to become dizzy now like I'm on a crazy rollercoaster. I had lost sight of max, "Where could he be?" I asked myself, leaving me all alone. Suddenly I see a human like figure in the far horizon; it looked a lot like my mother.
"Mum? Mum!" I screamed in happiness as I stumbled towards the tall figure. Only to then figure out it was a dead tree. "Great, just great." I whisper to myself as my face covered my hands. My knees start to buckle and I tumble on the red ground. It then all went black...
Next minute I hear muffled noises as I feel myself being carried away somewhere. I slowly open up my eyes and see two worried men in white clothing.
"Your very lucky mate that you survived" one of man said with a tear in his eye.
"If it wasn't for your courageous dog for getting help, who knows where you would be now" the other man came closer. As Max was licking my face.
