Prolog
The sand ripped through my skin as if someone was sticking pins and needles into every pore in my skin. I couldn't really see anything but I heard a faint voice through the thick layers of sand. "Charle, is that you!?"
"Sami!?"
"Ya, it's me"
"We need the ankh!"
"I know but the sand is too strong, and I am pretty much wasted."
"Use the shield"
"Do you not understand the term wasted!?"
"Just do it if I can get to Set I think I can get the ankh."
"But Sami I..."
"No buts, just do it."
"Fine"
After a few seconds of concentration a huge bronze shield burst out of the sand. Just as I had thought the sand cleared. Now I could see Charle lunged forward bearing the weight of the shield. He was right he was drained he looked like he was going to drop dead right there. He had dark circles under his hazel eyes and he looked like he hadn't slept in days, which was mostly true. Sweat beaded from his face and he slumped over like a sack of potatoes. His dark green t-shirt twisted and ripped in the sand storm and the letters were faded and now read SSF and half the letter M. The expression on his face read I could use a double cheese burger right now! Then, I ran for it.
Sami
Hi, my name is Sami Hafez. Your probably wondering what all that was so I should probably start from the beginning. When I was eight my parents had a client party for their realtor's business. It was an all adult party so I stayed home with my uncle Grover. Ya, what a name. That night the cops mocked on our door in forming us of my parents mysterious death. The next thing I know my uncle tells me we are leaving. We moved to Santa Barbra and got a new school, new house, and Grover got a new job. Luckily my best friend had a cure for my misery. I met Charle when I first moved to Santa Barbra. Charle is... How do say it, an interesting kid. He has dark brown curly hair that sits on his head like the springs on those old fashioned couches. He is fairly tan and has big hazel eyes that never miss a detail. He has an eye for things if you know what I mean. He is about my height maybe a little bit taller and if extremely overconfident, if that is even a thing. Being himself he is always trying to find a cure for my depressing life.
"Hey just think about the future, we are going to be rich!"
"Ya, I don't think anyone is going to buy anything from two 13 year olds with guns."
Charle was always making trinkets and what he calls upgrading old water guns and fireworks. One time he found this old Nerf gun that he had lying around in his attic. It was mostly dark blue with a touch of orange here and there and on the back end there was a yellow pocket where the amo was held. On the bottom, half attached, there was an orange handled chain saw. It was facing backwards which made no sense to me. I don't know how he did it but he managed to add blue LED lights, paint the whole think black, and flip the chain saw around. When he was done I had to admit it was pretty awesome! He made the whole thing working. He also bumped up the shooting power so it shot over 10 meters. Although it was impressive when we went to show people they either screamed and ran for their lives, or threatened to call the police. After a while we gave up on trying to sell things, or at least I did.
Probably another reason I was so depressed was because of McKenzie Bahtan. In all truthfulness, if I had known how to use my powers, McKenzie Bahtan would have been in 1000 pieces by the time she set foot through the school doors.
"Get out of my way Hafez. I don't need you making me late for my classes."
"Ya, whatever."
"Don't talk smart with me kid, I don't have time for your little games."
I probably shouldn't have but just as she was walking away I grabbed her wrist and pulled her the opposite direction.
"Watch what you say." I exploded. the words came out without even thinking. I was kinda surprised my self.
"Get your grubby little hands off!"
I tightened my grip. she tried to pull away with no luck.
"Help!" she cried frantically but there was no one there, the hallways were empty. Just as I was about to attack her with another comment I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder. My eyes widened and my grip loosened a bit.
"It's ok Sami" the voice said softly "Let her go."
Almost as if I was in a trance I instantly released her. My knees buckled and fell to the floor.
"Need a hand?"
I looked up and kneeling beside me was Rena. Her chocolate brown hair laid over her shoulders spiraling up and curling around her face . Her big brown eyes sparkled in the sliver of sunlight shinning through the window.
"You ok?" she said offering out a hand
" I'm fine." I said trying to sound confident
"You were really about to hurt her."
"I wasn't really going to, just warning her to leave me alone." I said standing up and brushing off my jeans.
"Ya that explains why your grip was so tight." she said sarcastically
"Hey guys, what's up." Said Charle conveniently walking by "what happened I heard Mcmean face yelling?" he said jokingly
" Um, just her usual self. she spilled something on her shirt." Rena said casually
I gave her a look as to say THANKYOU! Then she gave me a sweet smile and her golden eyes shined at me.
"We should get to class." she said
Charle
Hey I'm Charle. Well you probably already know that. Anyways that was aquard. They don't know it but I saw the whole Shabang. Sami defineatly has a thing for Rena. I was tempted to tell her but he would kill me.
After school we went to Rena's house. It was kinda like our hang out. My step dad would kill me if he if I brought anyone over he doesn't let anyone touch anything in 'his' house. He hardly lets me live there and Sami's uncle always has his creepy friends over. Besides Rena's mom is cool. I walked in, plopped down on the couch and propped my feet on the table.
