the bum chums

prologue

annabella, a student of oakland hill high school, was assigned the task of showing a new student around the school. this wasn't new for her, her being the vice president of her class. she was usually assigned to show around one or multiple new students, since she was so sociable. 

"hello! my name is annabella, and you're lindsay, right?" annabella approached the new girl by the front office. the girl nodded, and annabella concluded she was the type not to talk too much, a lot of new students were like that.

"well, it's nice to meet you. and welcome to oakland hill! so we'll start here, the main office. the main office has everything you'll need attendance wise, and inside it and down that little hall is the vice principals office, the principal's office, and a bunch of other offices. i don't think you'll need to worry about those though." she described, gesturing to the hall as they walked into the office. "and those are the secretaries, you go to them for mostly anything. except for stuff you'd bring to guidance, i'll show you that later."

"next is the cafeteria, here is where we eat, obviously. unless you eat outside. there are some tables right out there, but usually only certain groups go out there." she explained, moving on further.

"here are some of the classrooms, kind of boring. but over here is the library, where nobody is really quiet. we'll go in here to hang out since it's pretty big and has a lot of seats, and theres a part at the back where it's kind of quiet, so you can do homework back there." they walked past the library, and as they were on their way towards the gymnasium and the auditorium, they entered the main hallway and had to move a bit to the side for a group of people all laughing like crazy.

"who are they?" lindsay asked, her eyes fixated on the group.

"those are the bum chums. they're always together and laughing about god knows what." annabella crossed her arms over her chest and watched the group pass, but none of those in the group even noticed their stares.

"hm. maybe i should hang out with them." lindsay was just about to try and catch up with them, but was put off by annabella shaking her head. 

"i wouldn't. they strictly hang out with each other. they're like, super socially awkward so together they're just a bunch of people who don't know how to communicate unless it's with each other or function without at least one person from the group. they're not mean or anything though, they're actually really sweet." annabella sighed after her words, turning on her heel when she finished. 

"they sound cool." lindsay shrugged and turned, jogging to catch up with annabella. she laughed.

"not one bit, but they love each other." her laugh died down a little after her words, leaving na awkward silence between them. "so heres the auditorium, we hold assemblies here and have little shows from guests, but those are kind of boring. and once you exit here from that exit over there, you'll be out at the first gymnasium and the fitness center. the fitness center has a bunch of equipment to work out with, you can go there after school until 4:00 on mondays wednesdays and fridays. and sometimes your gym teacher will bring your class in there instead of doing whatever you were supposed to do in gym." annabella conducted, having quite the blast showing around lindsay. she always liked showing new students around, it was like she was one of those disney tour guides.

"and here, the last stop of our trip, is the second gym and the locker rooms." annabella turned on her heel, again, to face lindsay with a big grin. albeit a fake grin, but a grin nonetheless.

"you're school is nice." lindsay commented, wandering around the little area between the locker rooms and main entrance to the gym.

"welcome to oakland. you'll love it here."
