i stepped into the elevator and pressed the 'floor 1' button. it didn't take long to get there, since my room was only on the third floor.
i walked to the middle of the lobby, where there was a short line of people waiting to talk to the front desk.
i stood behind a group of asian boys laughing and messing around with each other. there were four of them, three looked about my age, and one older guy. they hadn't noticed that it was their turn to talk to the lady sitting at the front desk.
"yah, come on," the older boy told the others to follow him. in korean.
they were korean? could they be part of the same group tour i was in?
i couldn't help but eavesdrop on their conversation with the front desk lady.
"hello, i have a question," the older guy spoke english.
he had an accent... austrailian?
"yes, sir?" the lady asked.
"what's the wifi password here?"
oh, what a coincidence. i was going to ask the same thing.
the lady gave him a card, which probably had the password on it.
should i just ask him to show me? i didn't want to bother the lady, she probably already had to give out at least a million of those cards to people who wanted the hotel wifi password.
just as the boys thanked the lady and walked away from the desk, i got out of line and followed them.
i tapped the older guy on the shoulder. he turned around, surprised.
"who the f-"
"annyeonghaseyo," i cut him off.
"oh? you're korean? what do you want?" he asked.
"i bet she wants my number," one of the other boys said.
ew, no. i just wanted the wifi password.
"hwang hyunjin, shut up. not every girl in the world has a crush on you," the guy i had tapped snapped.
"actually... i just wanted to ask if you guys could show me the wifi password? i didn't want to make the front desk lady answer the same question over and over," i said.
"oh. sure-" he was about to give me the card when he pulled it back. "wait. why should i give you this? i don't even know you."
"i bet she's too scared to speak english to the lady," another guy snickered.
ugh. was it so hard to show me the wifi password card for a moment?
"fine, be that way-" i was about to walk off when one of the boys spoke up.
"why are you guys so rude?" he snatched the card from the older guy and handed it to me.
"thanks," i typed in the password into my phone.
"oh, kim seungmin. girls are definitely your weakness," the older guy teased.
"chanie hyung's right," the hyunjin guy agreed.
the seungmin guy just rolled his eyes.
"thanks, seungmin, is it?" i handed him the card back.
"yeah, no problem," he took the card from me, smiling.
oh wow. what a cute smile.
they walked away, and the three boys didn't seem to stop teasing seungmin. they sat down on some of the sofas in the lobby.
i looked down at my phone, which had received a bunch of notifications while i didn't have wifi.

i felt someone tap me on the shoulder. i almost dropped my phone as i whipped around.
"ah!"
"ooh! sorry! i didn't mean to scare you," a girl my age was standing in front of me.
she looked foreign, but korean at the same time. well, she spoke korean.
"it's fine," i said.
"annyeong, i'm jeon somi. i think we're in the same group tour! do you wanna be friends?" she looked really excited.
"sure? i'm park minjoo, nice to meet you."
"ooh, minjoo! that's a pretty name! how old are you, minjoo?"
"eighteen."
"oh! i'm so sorry, i should call you minjoo unnie. i'm seventeen," she looked embarrassed.
i was already starting to like this girl.
"it's okay. where are you from?"
"seoul! yeah, i know i look foreign, my dad is dutch-canadian. my mom is korean."
"wow, that's cool. were you born in korea? you're so good at korean."
"oh, i was born in canada. but i moved to korea when i was one. i'm really excited because we get to go to canada on this trip, my birth country!" she laughed.
somi's personality was brighter than my future, to be honest.
"ahh... i was born in california, and i moved to incheon when i was nine. now i'm visiting the u.s. again."
"ooh, california! i've been there before! the weather's really nice," somi beamed.
i smiled. somi suddenly frowned. she was looking at something behind me. i turned around, confused.
"i... think the guys over there are talking about you."
my eyes followed where she was looking. the guys i had asked for the wifi password earlier.
