Belle's POV
It was Sunday and I was sitting in the audience of a court trial next to Tony. This isn't my type of scene, but this was for my best friend. Monica was about to go up against her parents with her aunt in a fierce custody battle. With the smack of the gavel, court was in session. All the appropriate rituals took place and the case started with Tony and I on the edge of our seats.
When it was about time to find out about the verdict, I hadn't stopped gripping the edge of the bench and Tony hadnt stopped bouncing his leg.
"I charge Joshua Anderson with battery and life in prison. I charge Amanda Anderson with battery and 30 years in prison. Adriana Lewis has full custody over Monica Anderson." A final smack of the gavel signaled that everyone was dismissed.
Our side of the court cheered and as her parents were escorted out they screamed and spat profanities at their daughter who yelled back.
"Rot in hell!" This would've usually had some sort of consequence but the judge let it slide. There were hugs shared between her aunt Adriana and herself and I hugged Tony. We all had a group hug from the excitement and ran out the court smiling. Her aunt had flown all the way down from Florida to win this custody battle and it was time and money well spent.
We were all going out but Ms. Lewis (who told us to call her Adriana) couldn't stay.
"Come to this address when you're done and I'll be there." With that, she handed Monica a little white slip of paper and the three of us climbed into the seats of Tony's mom's car and went to a local diner where they served sandwiches and things of that nature. We got a booth together and a young waitress walked up to us. She had long electric orange hair that was blonde at the roots and had a good energy.
"Hello, welcome to the Serpent's Diner, can I start you guys off with some drinks?"
"Mountain Dew."
"Diet Coke."
"Water." She jotted down the orders and my friends looked at me funny.
"Water? I don't know many teenagers who go with water over soda." Tony was right but I had to keep my secret.
"I just hate the fizziness of it." I played it off and acted like it was normal and we all engaged in conversation while they looked over the menu and I only pretended to. The waitress came back and stood at the table with our drinks. She distributed them and stood with her notepad.
"Alright, who's ready to order?"
"Could I have a Veggie burger?"
"And I would like a BLT."
When it got to me I didn't speak.
"And for you?"
"Oh, I'm not hungry." She nodded her head and walked away with a small frown on her lips.
I felt their eyes boring into me and I looked anywhere but at them.
"Belle. You're starving. I heard your stomach like, four times in that courtroom." He was right. I was starving. But I was fat, so why eat?
"Guys, really I'm okay." I lied to them and there was the usual restraunt wait time for food until the sandwiches were brought out and placed on the table with fries. It made my mouth water and it smelled too good. Monica pushed her fries in front of me and Tony did the same.
"Eat." Monica gave the demand but I felt dirty just looking at the fries. I have both anorexia nervosa and bulimia. They couldn't expect me just to eat but they also didn't know. Sure enough, they were finding out, but I couldn't have that. I ate a few fries and they tasted like a beautiful potato heaven. I hadn't had fries in years and I remembered why I hadn't and excused myself.
