The darkness is complete, oceans at these depths will accept no light. Life here consists of species unknown to man. Small crustaceans that have adapted to the darkness. Able to find food through feel and smell rather than sight. No mammal can live down here. The pressure would crush the life out of them well before they reach half way down from the surface. That is why they live down here, where no one will ever find them.

The spear makes a swishing noise as it zips past Marcus’s left ear. The specialize goggles he wears allow him to see the bubble trail in the darkness. The spear smashes into the side of the rocky hill and impales itself a few centimeters deep. He twists in the direction the spear has come from and fires without aiming. He loses site of it after a few seconds but hears it sizzling through the water as it approaches its target. Thud, it's found its target and pierced the outer lining of his opponents protective armor. Swimming closer he can see bubbles of air escaping Auggie's (Augustine when his parents aret around), mouth from the impact.

“Dead!” cries Marcus extending his hands out to his side and twirling them to push the water so it propels him into a back flip, “Not many people can make that shot, biatch.” He pounds his chest twice with his right hand, kisses his extended index and middle finger twice and points up to the surface.

“Why do you do that? What's that even mean?” Spits Auggie mocking him by pounding both fist on his chest and then pointing down.

“That’s not how you do it.”Marcus growls.

“How do you know?”

Marcus shrugs his shoulders and isn't so defensive now. “I’ve seen the humans doing it when I watch their shows on the monitors. I don’t really know what it means though.” Auggie blow bubbles out of his nose in disgust.

“Why do you even watch them?” Auggie pulls the spear from his chest plate and hands it back to Marcus.

“I don't know. I suppose it’s like when the humans watch the apes in their zoos, it’s entertaining.” Marcus didn’t really feel that way but he knew it was the best answer to give. If he admitted the truth, that he envied them in many ways, he’d never hear the end of it and may even be in trouble. But the fact was he did envy them especially the freedom they had to wonder their planet most of all. The thought of jumping on a bicycle or motorcycle and driving where ever or whenever he felt made him ache with desire. He longed to feel the wind in his hair and the sun on his face so much so that he once sat in a chair in front of the domes ventilation fan, raised his hands to handle bar level and shined an old heat lamp on himself. It was one of the greast feelings he'd ever had. And, of course, there were the girls. So many of them in all shapes and sizes and colors. So different from one another. Each expressing their individuality through the way they dressed or talked or the books they read or any other number of ways. It made his mind fog over just trying to think of such freedom.

Then the despair would set in because he would remember the world that he lives in. His world was so...so...bland in comparison. Stuck in a dome, hiding at the bottom of the ocean. Unable to explore the surrounding area for more than an hour. It all seemed so unfair. That a culture as advanced as his had to hide at the bottom of the ocean while the humans got to roam free. And the most galling thing of all was that they didn’t appreciate it. They took everything for granted, even to the point that they abused their planet, ruining it slowly for future generations. This jealousy and anger was a constant battle that raged inside him all the time.

“Yeah, I’ll give ya that. They can be an entertaining species at times, simple but entertaining” agreed Auggie, “Let’s go in this pressure suit is starting to bother me.” Auggie pulled at the one piece outfit that allowed them to be outside the dome. Without it they would be crushed by the pressure of the ocean instantly.
