Chapter 7

The rest of the day went by unnoticed, I hadn’t seen Tory or any of his friends since lunch and i had a feeling they weren’t in school, I  was standing alone in the car park currently tapping my foot with impatience, the bus was due a whole hour ago and I was starting to get nervous.

The car park was deserted, only one car still lurking in the corner and if the bus didn’t come soon i had no idea how I’d get home.  Home, it was strange how i now thought of my empty hotel room as home, i used to think that home was somewhere you loved, where the heart was, but now i just saw it as a place to live as i no longer had something like that.

I really needed a car, i thought to myself. My parents had promised me one for my seventeenth but that wasn’t really an option anymore, at leat then i wouldnt be outside in the freezing cold waiting for a bus that may or may not come to rescue me.

I fiddled with my necklace as the sky darkened it had just gone half five and the street lights were slowly starting to glow. I hopped from one foot to the other trying to decide what to do when i heard movement behind me.

I spun into the darkness and strained my eyes, searching for an explanation, i found none.

“So you’re the alphas new play thing?” The voice was feminine and cut through the air sharply. I mentally rejoiced, if it was just a female i stood a better chance when she shifted, I could tell by the strong stench of possessive hormones that she was releasing, that she was in fact a werewolf and thought of Tory as hers. She didn’t let me reply.

“Did you really think i would let a pathetic bitch like you steal him from me?” I really wouldn’t be surprised if she started to cackle. Instead of concentrating on what she was saying, i searched the dark for her figure, trying to locate the source of her voice; however her next comment really caught my attention.

“When he finds out who you really are,” the girl stepped forward out of the shadows; she had long dark hair and beautiful brown eyes, the type of girl who could have anyone they wanted, “you’ll be lucky to survive.” My face blanked did she know my real surname? that i was a fake, or was it that i couldn’t shift? maybe she thought i was human.

As soon as the words had left her mouth she turned sharply to look at the empty school building before a look of fright breached her expressionless face. Without another word she turned again but this time in the opposite direction before disappearing from sight. My mouth fell open i had so much more to say, to ask, but instead my mouth had just opened and closed trying to find words like some sort of goldfish, she was gone.

I gulped and turned to follow her gaze on the school, a dark silhouette lingered behind one of the glass windows but as soon as id seen it, it also disappeared.  I looked towards the entrance of the school where footsteps echoed, getting louder and louder.

“You’re welcome” another voice called and when they passed under a street light i recognised the figure, Tory.

Immediately my body went rigid, it was dark, we were alone and he was a powerful alpha, perhaps how he’d acted today was fake, that he just wanted me to think he was kind and then when i was vulnerable... kill me, maybe i was being irrational but right now i couldn’t think of any other reason he would be here.
