It gets a little bit graphic, I'm just warning you guys

Allison's surgery goes on here, and apparently Adam thinks he is old enough to smoke

---------

Rose slit open Allison's wing with a knife, and peered inside. "Holy-, the X-rays weren't kidding with the scar tissue." She blinked a couple of times. "Okay."

Meanwhile Warin was manning the anesthesia machine, and Petal was examining Allison's leg. "Hmmm. I'm gonna go in through the side. That seems easier." She had a little difficulty cutting through the scales, but she eventually slit open Allison's leg.

Occasionally Warin adjusted the amount of anesthesia with knobs and buttons. He watched her heartbeat count and adapted the machine with it; less heartbeat, less anesthesia, and vice versa.

Dr. Soren and Douglas watched behind the glass pane. Every so often Dr. Soren wrote something down on his clipboard that had a piece of paper on it. Douglas ended up staring at the operation the whole time, and barely glanced away.

"Yes, master, I know what your orders were."

"I would get them done sooner, but things are getting a little complicated."

"No, no, no. You don't have to come. She's out of my grasp at the moment."

"No. It wasn't that bad. She's being fixed up right now."

"It was only a broken wing and leg. Not that bad."

"There are four doctors and an asshole with her, sir."

"I meant Douglas, that's the asshole."

"I can do that. I'm still not sure how he will defend himself, though."

"He could break it. You didn't make it for melee combat."

"You're right. I'm sorry, Master."

"New orders?"

"Kill him and bring her to me. Your deadline has been shortened. I except nothing less from you, Adam. Get it done."

"Yes, master." And then he hung up.

A long sigh escaped his lips.

--------

"Well, we might be here a while," Seto said, glancing at his watch.

"Agh. I'm starving." Kat glanced around, trying to see if there was a shorter or faster line. All of them seemed to be the same length and same speed, though.

Time seemed to pass slowly. It took around 10-15 minutes for one Enderman to be served. Lines became longer as Endermen came in faster than there were leaving. Were there sloths serving as bankers up there?

Soon the lines reached out the door, and Endermen started complaining of the long lines in Enderman tongue. That didn't help much.

Around 30-45 minutes later Seto and Kat reached the middle of their line. Kat sighed. "I swear, I'm going to start eating my dress if this line doesn't start speeding up."

"Mmm. I've never tasted clothing before. Tell me how it is," Seto said absentmindedly. Kat lightly punched him on his shoulder.

About another 30 minutes they were finally up to the front desk. Luckily the banker wasn't a sloth, but he might as well be based on how slow he was.

It was an older Enderman working the desk, probably in his late 40s or early 50s. He had a shaggy and thin gray beard on his chin, and he had a thin and tall frame. He looked like he was taller when he was younger, but now he slouches forward. His eyes were a pale and dull purple, and his mouth seemed to be permanently slightly open.

"How may I help you?" He said in a raspy voice.
"Um, hi. Is this where we can trade cash for Endercoins?" Seto asked.
"Why, yes you can."
"Ok, we'd like to trade."
"How much?"

"Hmm," Seto fished out his wallet from his robe, and looked in it. He had a $50, two $20s, and a few $1s. "I'll trade a $20 and three $1s. How much is that?"

The old Enderman brought out a cloth bag and a calculator. He muttered to himself for a moment, while pressing buttons on the calculator. Finally, he replied. "23 dollars will convert to 57 Endercoins. Fair trade?"

Seto turned his neck to look at Kat. "What do you think?"

"I think it's fine. I don't even know if there is a ratio or anything..." She said, trailing off. She looked away.

"Erm, ok. We'll make the trade." He said, pulling out the $20 and three $1s. Seto handed the bills to the old Enderman, and he tipped over the cloth bag, revealing Endercoins inside. He began counting them until he got to 57.

The old Enderman separated the 57 coins from the rest. He put the extra away, and dropped the bag into a drawer in the desk. He swept up the 57 Endercoins into a bag, and handed them to Seto. "Here you go. 57 Endercoins. Have a nice day."

"Thank you," Seto said, and walked to the entrance with Kat.

"Well, that took a bit," Kat said after they walked outside. Then a familiar voice responded.

"Oh, hey, guys. I was just about to get in line."

Kat and Seto both whipped around to see a figure with a lit cigarette leaning against the wall. It was Adam.

"Oh, hi." Seto's starting-to-pale face replied. "I didn't expect you to be here."

Adam inhaled with the cigarette in his mouth, and breathed out, letting out smoke. "Yeah. Douglas didn't give me enough to really buy any food, so he told me if I needed more I could go to this place. It seems pretty busy, though."

"No kidding. It took us almost 2 hours to get a handful." Seto replied, lifting up his small bag of Endercoins.

"So, were you guys going out to eat or something?"
"Yeah. How about you?"
"I was too, but, I already told you the story." He inhaled the cigarette again.
"Are you okay? I didn't know you were old enough to smoke."
"I am and I'm not. I'm stressing, that's all."
"From what?"

Adam inhaled the cigarette yet again. "Apparently Allison's surgery was today and I just found out about it when they came to get her." He breathed out in a long sigh.

"Oh. Did you go with her?" Seto asked carefully.
"No, I would've, but Douglas is with her, along with a couple of doctors."

"Did they say how long it would take?" Kat joined in.
"Mmmm. I believe they said about a few hours, but I'm not sure." Adam replied, and yet again inhaled his cigarette.

"How long have you been smoking?"
Seto asked out of curiosity.
"A couple of weeks now. Why?"
"Just curious. And how old are you?"
"16."
"That's a little young to smoke."

"No one cares anymore, though." Adam ended that argument. Seto wanted to say he cared, but he didn't want to flare up the argument again.

"So, are you hungry?"

"Mmm, yeah. Did you find a restaurant?"
