My earliest memory was in my mother's arms. Only hours old. I could barely move my fins. Though my mother wouldn't let me go belly up. She promised from the moment I was in the water that she'd protect me, till it was time for me to protect her. I didn't know my father at the time. He traveled far away to find my first meal.
Everything was going smooth. Just me and my mother. Mother and I, how it should've always been. She coddled me and held me closer to her chest. Puckering her lips and blowing bubbles. I learned that that was our way of communication. Silly right? Only minutes later was I blowing my own bubbles. My bubbles came out small, then they got larger with more force. My mother was beautiful, at least I thought she was. She swam around our home, showing me around our little reef.
My mother started to feel a little uneasy. She was acting..strange..you could say. She looked around carefully before seeing my father in the distance. Something was behind him. At this, my mom began to swim up to the surface.
Why were we swimming up? We lived on the ocean floor, where it was safe. Even with my little knowledge I knew, we weren't meant to be up there, At least I wasn't.
My father swam past us, this was the first tome
I had seen him. He blew bubbles in our direction. My mother began to swim, why was she swimming so fast? I looked around me. Everything was moving so quickly.
After a short while,My mother stopped. Instructing me to move my fins. Blowing bubbles to me, these bubbles were in distress. What was wrong with my mother? Why was she making me swim now?
I followed her lead, Moving my tail quickly, my fins sending me forward. She held onto my small hand. Pulling me along. I could barely keep up. I blew some bubbles. Questioning her as to where we were going.
She didn't blow any bubbles back. She kept her eyes forward. She stopped again. Swimming down to the darkness of the ocean. She grabbed me again, putting me in a small cave between large rocks. She blew bubbles and told me to stay. I did as she told. I stayed, she promised to return once it was safe. Safe from what? I watched her swim away from that little cave, looking back before quickly leaving. I was alone. The first time I'd ever be alone. I couldn't even swim that well.
It felt like forever, she never came back. I swam up, leaving the safety of that little cave. Where was my mother? I saw light above me. Poking my head out of the water. Gasping in the new air. What was this? I was above surface. I saw something come towards me. It was big and white. It was loud and it was so quick I barely had time to duck down before it nearly hit me. It had a weird spinning thing at the bottom of it. Was that the creatures fin? I followed it. Maybe they could help me find my mother.I followed that thing till my little fins got tired. Blowing bubbles to it, hoping it'll stop and help me. I saw a school of fish, swimming towards that instead after giving up on the large white creature. Blowing more bubbles to them. Asking if they'd seen my mother. The fishes only swam away once I got too close. I was terrified. Where was my mother? Was my father with her? I began to float down to the bottom of the ocean. Only to get swept away quickly by the current. This caused me to panic, I tried to fight against it. I blew out panicked bubbles.
All of that was merely history. Now, I live in a small beach. My mother never came for me. She abandoned me, for what reason? Were my fins not big enough? Was I just an accident? Why did my mother leave me there?
The beach I live in wasn't so bad. I had plenty of friends. There were crabs, fish, and plenty of seaweed for me to eat. It did get lonely though, having to hide away and hope my parents would come for me.
Hiding in underwater caves and watching those weird two legged land creatures walking around. I wonder what it was like to be like them. They had on weird colorful skins though. Sometimes, they'd take those skins off and come right into the water, what is that all about? These creatures were strange, but fun to watch. They always threw these weird little bag like things into the water. I always took them to shore at night, hoping those creatures would clean up their mess. They never did though. I didn't mind at all. Maybe they didn't mean to do it. Everyone makes mistakes and does things on accident.__
I was packing up my bag for the trip. Huffing as I zipped my bag closed. Setting it down in the hallway with the rest of my families bags. I was the youngest. Only child at this point. All my siblings moved out so now it was just me, and we had to keep on the tradition of going to the same beach every year.
"Brendon! Start loading them up!" My dad called from downstairs. "On it!" I called back to him. I never got the point as to why we went there every year. There was nothing special about it. I lifted up those bags and started towards our truck. Watching my mom double check everything. "Bub, did you get all our shampoos and stuff?" She asked me.
Bub. I always hated that name. What kind of nickname is 'Bub'? It ain't as bad as bubba, what they used to call me, at least. When my friend Spencer first heard my nickname, he made fun of me for a week. I asked my parents not to call me that, but have you ever heard of your parents doing what you ask? I sure as hell hadn't.
Once I packed up everything into the truck,
I went to grab my dog Pennylane. Putting her harness on, and clipping the leash onto it. "Cmon PenPen. We gotta go." I tell her. Leading her to the car. She loved going to the beach. She especially loved the fish there.
I got into the back. Sitting Penny in her little bed on the seat next to me. Strapping her in and then myself. I watched my parents get in, they turned on the radio. Playing some station I never really liked, so I put on my headphones and listened to some soft acoustic songs.
Now we were on the road, and I hoped that I didn't have to stay trapped on that beach for too long, or maybe someone would be there to fulfill my needs for some action. It ain't too much to ask, right?
On the road, you could see many things, since we lived in California, you saw aplenty. Street performers here and there, Protestors, druggies if you're on the wrong side of the city, and so much more. It was nice to get out the crowded city at least. Listen to some ocean waves and not worry about people tryna steal money from you just to snort some coke off a hooker.
It only took a couple hours to get to our beach house on the coast. Once we had arrived it was about 5 pm and the sun wasn't gonna set for another hour or two. Why not go for a late night swim? My parents won't mind, they'd be busy with those neighbors who live a little farther up the beach. I got out the car and unpacked. I finally got to have the bigger room since my siblings weren't hogging it from me. Being the youngest had its perks. I set up my things for the month and along with Pennylane's things. Setting up her bed and her bowls in the kitchen. I sat on my bed and looked around. Wondering how our cleaners never tried to steal anything. It was really nice in the little cabin. Lots of old and expensive antiques. How could you not want to steal it then sell it? I know I would've.
My parents called me for dinner, which is where they'd establish rules. No inviting friends, unless it was Spencer of course, no swimming out too far, or too late. Absolutely no drinking or smoking. Just basic rules. Why would I need rules if all I did here was sit on the beach and swim? Parents are strange.
After they had left, I went to get in my swimming shorts and grab a towel to head out and have a small dip. Just to get some relaxation going. I headed out onto the beach and laid my towel out. Having my phone playing some music that was connected to a speaker and sitting on the towel. Admiring the all too familiar view. Once the sun started setting, I headed for the water. The further I walked, the deeper the water got. I stopped once the water was up to my waste. The soft glow of the setting sun barely lighting up the area around me. I could see some rocks and some fish. Though the fish didn't fancy being around me. I sat there and enjoyed the cool water after a hot day. I forgot about all my worries of staying here. It was almost perfect. Till I felt something large touch my leg...
