Her reflection looks back at her.
The hatred in her eyes seeping through.
She scanned her entire body,
Noticed every flaw and imperfection,
Staring down each one with contempt. She sees her,
Walking around with overflowing confidence.
She sees herself, and the drought she can't seem to get away from.
Instead, she's full to the brim with;
Jealousy, insecurity, resentment, anxiety,
Desire.
Desire to be her.He looks in his small bathroom mirror,
The loathing in his eyes is obvious.
Seeking for fault after fault,
Because in his mind there is an endless list of them.He sees what he wants to be.
He sees who he wants to be,
With the muscles and the football scholarship
And the girls hanging off his arms.
He sees himself,
Scrawny, simple, and disliked,
With arms that girls don't tend to hang off of.
Unwanted.
Unwanted by everyone. Both have had enough.
Both are exhausted.
Both feel the weight of their concealment,
And both desperately seek the lifting of that weight.
Both don't have much faith in their ability to go on..Both have the brilliant idea of the roof of their school.
She climbs the stairs, tears gliding down her flushed cheeks.
She is screaming through her skin.
She doesn't want her shoulders to bear this weight any longer.
She can't think of a better way to get away from herself,
Then to get rid of herself completely. He shames himself for crying as he takes another agonizing step up.
Over and over in his mind justification plays on repeat
No one wants him.
No one notices him.
No one can see him.
He's weak.
He can't carry any of it anymore.
He can't think of a better way to get away from himself,
Then to get rid of himself completely. She closes her eyes as she steps out the door,
Onto the roof,
Towards her end.He closes his eyes as he steps out the door,
Onto the roof,
Towards his end.Shaking, their eyes roll open.
I want one last look at this world she thinks.
I want one last look at this world he thinks.
They see each other,
They know they've been seen by each other. They identify each other,
Jump together,
Neither one alone when they died.
And both of them
Weightless.
