Since when is it okay for a guy to make a girls decision
for him to tell her what she does and does not want
Since when is it okay for a 21 year old male to tell a 13 year old female
"loosen up. it'll be okay. You'll enjoy it"
Since when is it okay to change a 14 year old girls view on life
all because you wanted to "get some"
Since when is it okay for a guy to make a girl feel unsafe
in the places she used to feel most comfortable
Since when is it okay for a guy to touch a girl, against her will, at school
and not get in trouble because "there's no proof"
Since when is it okay for that same girls sister to get suspended
for hitting that guy when he tried again
Since when is it okay to yell across a hallway
calling a girl a whore and yet again not get in trouble
Since when is it okay and excusable for you to rape a girl
because you're dating and "that's what she's supposed to do"
Since when is it okay for people to blame me
because "I was asking for it with the way I dress and act"
Since when is it okay for this to be so mainstream—you see it in video games
and hear about it in music and yet we're surprised when it actually happens.
Since when? I'll tell you since when.
Since instead of telling boys not to objectify women
we tell girls not to dress "slutty"
Since we started telling teenage boys that they're supposed to have sex
but we tell teenage girls that if they do, they don't respect themselves.
Since instead of telling guys not to make a girl feel uncomfortable
we'd rather teach a girl how to fight and give her pepper spray
Now when? When is this going to change you ask
Not until we stop letting "boys be boys"
and instead start teaching them to be people
and see what their actions really do.
