Chapter Four

Someone was running after me. "Orleans, Orleans, wait!"

        It was Steele.

I whirled around, but that hurt my ankle, and I sucked in a breath of pain. "What do you want?" I snapped.

"You can't go out here, look, you're not even dressed." Steele said, motioning to the nightgown thing I was wearing.

        "Steeeeeeele!" a high-pitched voice I recognized screeched.

Steele closed his eyes. "Not now," he muttered.

Gemma, the bitchy girl I'd met the other day, almost tackled him from behind, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Something twisted in my stomach. I chuckled. "I'll leave you two alone, then." I winked.

"Oh my god, you're the bitch from alpha's house!" Gemma said, smiling cruelly. "So you know all about us now, huh, human?"

        "Gemma," Steele whispered harshly.

I smirked. "Whatever," I said, turning and storming away.

"No, Orleans, you can't go out there when Blake is out there." Steele protested.

"Oh, I'm flattered by your concern, but I can take care of myself against a little wolf." I said flippantly, turning away.

        "Little wolf?" demanded Steele.

"Oh, Steely, let her go. If she wants to be mauled to death, let it be so." Gemma said, trying to pull his face to hers.

        "I can't." Steele said stonily.

Gemma gave him a look, and they seemed to be communicating with their faces. They just stared at each other for a moment, and Gemma was getting redder and redder in the face.

She huffed. "Fine. Screw you." and then she stormed away.

I also turned and began to walk away again. "Orleans, seriously."

"What? If you're so concerned, just come with me!" I said, not turning around, but instead trying to get my bearings. "Where, exactly, am I?"

Steele muttered something under his breath and stepped in front of me. "Come on, I'll take you home."

Eventually we found a road that I was distinctly familiar with, and began to walk down it. I began to head towards my house, but Steele steered me in the opposite direction.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"You can't go to your house, so we're going to your pack house. Apparently your brothers moved some of your stuff there." Steele said.

"My brothers? Are they there?" I asked excitedly.

"Shoud be. My little brother Henry is there too." Steele said.

"Oh, how old is he?" I asked.

"Five." Steele said, affection filling his eyes.

I smiled at his brotherly love. "All my brothers are older than me." I said. "I'm the baby of the family, I guess."

"Can't be all bad." Steele said.

"Yeah, well, my dad and I were never that close, as you can see. I was always a mommy's girl." I said.

"Yeah. I never really had a parent that I favored. I love both my parents equally." Steele said.
