I wondered through the park, glancing at the intricate gate, the flowers surrounding it, the soft breeze whizzing through them.
Behind me on the sports field, the boys playing soccer suddenly errupted into an uproar. I sensed something behind me, something flying, right at my-
Thud. I felt my body topple backwards. Heard the players yelling and the coaches blowing their whistles. One of the boys picked up the ball, the one that had smacked me on the head. I expected to fall down, the gate thudding my head. But it didn't.
I fell through the gate, and promptly disappeared, as far as the eye could see.
When I opened my eyes I sensed a looming shadow over me. When my eyes focused I could somehow sense that it was a girl, a girl whose eyes were filled with confusion and worry, her hair cascading down her back. She mouthed a few words but I could not hear her.
She then gestured towards me to get up, and to follow her. I saw a cottage in he distance, surrounded by a circle of forest.
The girl led me through the back door. I expected inside to be old, with ancient mats and run-down walls, but instead, inside was a new modern mansion. On one of the doors- the door to the girl's bedroom, I guessed- was the word ANNALITA, in tall, glittery letters.
I wanted to talk. I wanted to tell her that my name was Rosa and that I wanted to be her friend.
But I couldn't.
I was deaf,
mute,
and had no idea of how to get out and back to my own world.
